    ProsAmazing employee discount
    friendly coworkers
    very open dress code

    ConsThe pay is beyond terrible

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't pay new employees minimum wage. I have over 5 years of retail experience, I deserve more than 7.25 an hour

Great place to be yourself and develop experience

Store Manager (Current Employee) Kahului, HI

ProsBenefits, fun product, great atmosphere, great co-workers, customer base, vacation and sick time, easy transfer process, development plans.

ConsNot enough hours, work load is never balanced, compensation is minimal, salary pay employees on the sales floor is rare, district managers need to spend more time on the sales floor and learn more about the product we sell and customer base, more positive recognition to teams exceeding sales plan and other goals etc.

Advice to Senior ManagementCompensation, recognition, lead by example, help set up stores for success, more hours, more communication between stores in district.

Great place to gain job experience. They are a great place to work while going to school.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

Prosmost management is consistent on giving you the tools to succeed. takes are clearly defined. A very fun work environment. It is very easy to move up. This was my first job and within 6 months I was management.

ConsHours are inconsistent. We are usually not fully staffed due to it being hard to find employees that fit the criteria. Management is not paid as well as other retail companies in the mall. Hours are stretched thin so it is stressful to get tasking and sales goals completed.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend

    Tolerable Retail Experience!

Hot Topic Sales Associate (Former Employee)

ProsYou can get the security of any corporate retailer without the usual soul-draining pressure. I certainly enjoyed that sales weren't commision-based, so we weren't pressured to hound customers. A major allure for many is the liberal dresscode and relatively laid-back environment. It made for an excellent first work experience.

ConsObviously not a total escape from the retail experience. Busy seasons can lead to some very late-night cleaning and petty, inner-circle politics are prevalent, as in most work environments.

ProsI work with a great team. My coworkers and management are really friendly and engaging. The dress code is amazing and the music is awesome! I love working at Hot Topic. My manager is one of my best friends.

ConsThe pay is not good. I do not mind so much, but I could really use more spending money.

Mostly great place to work, but not a great long term employer

Assistant Store Manager (Former Employee) Tukwila, WA

ProsYou can have lots of fun with how your clothes, hair, and make-up. Some stores have in-store concerts and band signings. Great benefits even for part-time management. The company does listen to it's employees in all regards.

ConsThe company has taken away many of the qualities that made each store a unique experience. Advancement can be very hard as management positions are either hired from outside the company or transferred from other locations. Due to internet sales, many non mall stores have or will close in the near future.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to your employees as well as your customers in regards to merchandise. If they don't like where HT is going, then pass that on to HQ. Be honest about how product are be received or else you are doomed to keep getting stuck with dead products.

    Fun work environment

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsGood discount, great coworkers, awesome merchandise, you get to listen to awesome music while you work, family like environment.

ConsLow weekly hours, minimum wage pay, some customers are rude, stressful floor plans, working for a high volume store means more theft
