I have been working at Hot Topic part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Was very easy when doing the group interview. Talked about my personal hobbies, my favorite bands, and my strengths and weaknesses.

    Cons

There isnt really bad anything about because everyone is really nice and chill. You get to wear hatever you want. and also you get great discounts on the tee shirts and everything in the store

I worked at Hot Topic part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

You can express yourself and wear whatever you want, listen to great music, paid for your concert tickets if you filled out a fashion report, great energetic and fun co workers. Worked there for 7 years and loved it until the end.

    Cons

Very low pay that is impossible to live off of, right before I left shifts were cut down to 3 hour shifts which was ridiculous. As pay got lower and hours shorter, expectations grew from upper management that was impossible to do everything they wanted while trying to retain great customer service and maintain the store. Every now ans then you would get a bad customer/parent, but I worked in a bible belt town so it was expected.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

3 hour shifts is a waste of anyone's time, go back to 5 hour shifts and prioritize on what you expect from employees and the store

    Amazing employee discount
    friendly coworkers
    very open dress code
    can look however you want

    Cons

I have been working at Hot Topic full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Benefits, fun product, great atmosphere, great co-workers, customer base, vacation and sick time, easy transfer process, development plans.

    Cons

Not enough hours, work load is never balanced, compensation is minimal, salary pay employees on the sales floor is rare, district managers need to spend more time on the sales floor and learn more about the product we sell and customer base, more positive recognition to teams exceeding sales plan and other goals etc.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Compensation, recognition, lead by example, help set up stores for success, more hours, more communication between stores in district.

I have been working at Hot Topic

    Pros

most management is consistent on giving you the tools to succeed. takes are clearly defined. A very fun work environment. It is very easy to move up. This was my first job and within 6 months I was management.

    Cons

Hours are inconsistent. We are usually not fully staffed due to it being hard to find employees that fit the criteria. Management is not paid as well as other retail companies in the mall. Hours are stretched thin so it is stressful to get tasking and sales goals completed.

I worked at Hot Topic part-time for more than a year

    Pros

You can get the security of any corporate retailer without the usual soul-draining pressure. I certainly enjoyed that sales weren't commision-based, so we weren't pressured to hound customers. A major allure for many is the liberal dresscode and relatively laid-back environment. It made for an excellent first work experience.

    Cons

Obviously not a total escape from the retail experience. Busy seasons can lead to some very late-night cleaning and petty, inner-circle politics are prevalent, as in most work environments.
