    Great Experience

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsPeople are terrific and the work environment is the best around. The LA office moved a couple of years ago into a completely remodeled location. Great views, open concept, nice work stations.

ConsToo many Chiefs and not enough American Indians. Juniors work long hours and many weekends. Need to work on ways to provide better worklife balance.

Advice to Senior ManagementSo many committees floating around that it's hard to keep up with all the ideas and initiatives. They are all terrific concpts, but should think about how we corral them in so the proper implementation can occur.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

    A good company to work

Manager (Current Employee) Los Angeles, CA

ProsOnce established, flexibility is great. Bonuses are higher than average.

ConsPromotions are given to employees randomly and at times make no sense at all. Bankers are over-worked. Corporate depts are not treated equally within the company.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake a look at the list of the best companies to work for and read why they are on the list. HL should strive to do better for their employees. They certainly can afford to.

Good, stable employer; work environment could use improvement

    (Current Employee)

ProsI know what's expected of me from my team and management. Allowed a great deal of autonomy to complete my work the way I want to so long as the results are timely and according to expectations. Good company events (in-office breakfasts, off-site happy hour, parties, etc). My department has a great energy.

ConsThere are obvious issues with hostility and poor management in other departments. Corporate tends to be laissez-faire when they should take a more interested approach to managing their many offices around the country. Promotions tend to be illogical and not merit-based.

If you stay within FAS as an analyst for more than 1 year, your career track will become stagnant

Financial Analyst (Current Employee) Century City, CA

ProsQuite honestly, this job provides a pretty good stepping stone to get into investment banking (M&A or industry coverage). Generally, the people are very nice in FAS (at least in the LA office) and the group provides pretty good work/life balance.

ConsOverall, compensation is pretty poor for FAS. Also, exit opportunities become very bleak if you stay longer than 1 year.

    Great experience

Investment Banking Analyst (Current Employee) Dallas, TX

ProsGreat people. They were not only smart but also fun to work with. I worked in the FAS group as an analyst intern and had a great experience. The only reason I didn't return was because of the location, yet my MD still wrote me a great recommendation letter and helped me get my current job.

ConsThe hours were long and you can never really know when you'll have to work late or come in on the weekends. But that's pretty standard in this line of work.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep on keepin' on.

    A nice place to work

Manager (Current Employee) Los Angeles, CA

ProsUpper management gives you confidence the firm is headed in a good direction
Some level of appreciation for employees is shown

ConsVisible gap between treatment of financial and corporate staff
    Cost conscious to a fault
Turnover seems unusually high on corporate side

Solid Company and a good place to grow

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

    ProsExcellent Training budget and opportunities
    Great, new office space
Solid company that has continued to grow
    Future-focused and moving forward
    Strong IT department

ConsCompany very focused on financial staff
Some very difficult and offensive staff remain employed even with several complaints
    24/7 availability required

Advice to Senior ManagementEven though the company is moving toward supporting the non-financial staff, it should be stressed that they are vital employees, too, and the financial staff would have a very difficult, if not impossible, time doing their job effectively without them.
