Former Employee - Nurse Care Manager in Saint Petersburg, FL

I worked at Humana full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Work from Home, a great program for getting in shape or maintaining your health (Vitality), pays up to 6.5% above what the employee contributes to their 401K

    Cons

Senior Leadership is only focused on quantity not quality although they claim quality is of utmost importance. They also pride themselves on being military friendly but do not make allowances for military related disabilities. (and yes, I know a couple of former employees who have filed ethics complaints)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

work more closely with HR and the disabled vet to try to find a way to accomodate their disability so they can retain otherwise hard working, dependable and ethical

I have been working at Humana as an intern (more than a year)

    Pros

flexible hours, great pay, friendly environment

    Cons

not challenging, felt like more IT work than finance

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have the interns get more involved with the rest of the team, rather than giving them side-work.

I have been working at Humana

    Pros

Humana is a very large company that can either be a career or great to build your resume'. The opportunity to advance in the company is always there. The work environment is nice and most facilities have a workout area. The salary is decent and can give bonuses in most departments based on performance. Benefits are OK but Humana pushes for a healthy lifestyle and promotes it well. Management pushes for success and are always willing to help. Working from home is encouraged after 6 months.

    Cons

The specialist jobs can be very difficult, not the actual work, but the how much production you must work with in a day. Some of the departments have a high turnover rates due to that situation. Working Saturday's is very common along with holidays. Raises can be difficult to get unless you get promoted.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Stay non-bias and positive.

Expanding and Transforming Company with Solid Executive Leadership

Current Employee - Program Manager in Louisville, KY
Current Employee - Program Manager in Louisville, KY

I have been working at Humana full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Opportunity to work in an environment that is transforming
    - 'Noble' work to support our members
    - Investment in Associates and their development
    - CEO and Management Team have developed a compelling Vision and the workplace is more open to 'bringing your entire self' to work through the Network Resource Groups and policies that support Associates
    - You will NEVER be bored if you choose to be responsible for your career, many opportunities

    Cons

    - Overwhelming amount of work and resources need to be balanced
    - Some leadership is a decade behind in their approach to leading and working (they haven't caught up with the Senior Executives)
    - Pay is stagnant; however, it is also at the high-end in the region, and bonuses can make up for that based on role
    - Highly regulated environment so be prepared to have the mindset to work through those challenges

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Continue to live and expand on the importance of the Values
    - Continue to focus on the member - we have made great progress, but can't lose sight of those whom we serve
    - Set higher expectations for leaders to lead and not be promoted because they know the job inside and out
    - Look at flight risks - the war for talent is gearing up and you could lose tremendous talent over time

I worked at Humana full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Some areas are flexible on schedules, dress codes, and good work/life balance.

    Cons

Certain departments do not have good leadership and in turn makes it stress on associates under those leaders.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It would be helpful if managers knew the work their associates performed. They should side by sides to get familiar with processes.

Current Employee - Actuarial Analyst in Louisville, KY

I have been working at Humana full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

-A focus on wellness, not just selling insurance:
Humana seems to understand that keeping people healthy results in less expense and happier customers, as well as more productive employees.

    -Hi-Tech solutions;
Humana has done well at embracing the benefits of health monitoring technology through digital wellness-tracking programs for seniors, as well as encouraging employees to earn rewards by wearing Bluetooth fitness trackers such as Fitbits.

    Cons

    -Over-extension:
Humana is seriously huge, and continues to acquire new products and companies almost constantly. This has resulted in the "Comcast Effect", where rapid expansion creates a mishmash of teams and infrastructures that don't quite fit together.

    Recommends
    Positive Outlook
