I worked at Humana full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Pretty good technology and technical support for employees. Some good wellness programs. Pretty good work/life balance.

    Cons

A high performer who proved themselves year after year and was never given an opportunity to advance. They offer good benefits but the rates increased significantly year over year and Humana did little to cover any of the expense. Compensation, unless you're in management, is significantly below industry standard. Turnover is high and they do nothing about it. Management consistently hires candidates that are a poor fit and do not have the skills necessary to do the job. They do very little to keep their hourly employees engaged. It's definitely a "good old boys" club.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Quit hiring your buddies and work to develop and advance the people who you have already invested in. Provide those people with opportunities and reward high performers.

    Pros

Benefit packages, salary, values & what the company stands for.

    Cons

Upper management is not supportive, decisions are made with no regards to the associates, zero recognition.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognize your leadership team and associates not just yourself.

Former Employee - Pharmacy Technician in Phoenix, AZ

I worked at Humana full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Pharmacy technicians, in general, are willing to work together for a common goal. There are some supervisors that genuinely care about their employees and their growth. Good 401K match and HSA match.

    Cons

There is high turnover here. I had three different bosses in three months at one point. They do not understand if you have a scheduling issue ever.

They claim to have work/life balance--they do not. Be prepared to spend all of your time at work come "busy season." They will give you no notice, and tell you that you have to come in 2 hours early the next day or work 2 hours late.

Miss work 3 times in 90 days, you will be fired.

Many of the upper management do not listen to a word you say, and the few that do often steal your ideas for improving efficiency and use them as their own.

HR is a joke. I once told a manager that I was considering going to HR about an issue, and they told me, "Go ahead and talk to HR. They say something different every time."

For a benefits company, they have terrible insurance benefits. It will cost you 1/3 of your pay (if you have a family) for a plan with a $2,400 deductible and after that you will still have to pay 10% of all costs until you reach $6,400.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Appreciate your employees. They're the ones who have to work efficiently, after all, to keep up your profit margins.

I worked at Humana full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Pay is good, time off allowed is ample, 401k matching and vitality programs are excellent.

    Cons

It may just be the different call center type rolls, but I have honestly never worked for a company that was so accepting of mediocrity, or that allowed such blatant racism within its employee ranks. My fiance still works here and and cannot stand it, she comes home crying every night because someone on her "team" was attacking anything she said and gesturing like they were going to "jump" her because she is not the same color. It is apparent that this is racist behavior because these people act the same way toward all individuals of a certain race, and not toward ANY individuals of their own. The mediocrity is that they allow such trash to work there and not do their jobs correctly causing problems for everyone else who works there. I have never before felt so awkward and alienated as I did working for Humana. It is also very difficult to advance to any supervisory type rolls, many people stay a specialist because people only move up if they have been there for several years (5+) and only if they are lucky at that point.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your employees like people, not numbers, and you will find they are more willing to work their hardest for you.

    Pros

Free public transportation to and from work.

    Cons

Middle management is self absorbed and upper management is blind to this fact.
Favoritism is always chosen over knowledge and skill.
Management doesn't care about lower level employees.
They outsource to foreign countries to save a dime.
They care more about making profit.

    I worked at Humana full-time

    Pros

The benefits are good and start day one. Also they offer great education assistance.

    Cons

Treat hard working employees like they are dispensable. Do everything in their power to ensure certain people receive raises. Confusing instructions and day to day last minute changes. Managers speak to you unprofessionally. They dont every want you to take time off no matter the reason. Expectations to be perfect are extremely high.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your employees the way you want to be treated. Pay hard working employees what they are worth to stop your high turn over rate. Get rid of the combative atmosphere and the gossiping. Eliminate the favoritism and the need to hire only Latin Americans. This is in reference to the management at CarePlus which is a Humana owned company.
