    Pros

The pay was outstanding. $28.00 dollars per hours. The staff were professional and all the teachers were experienced. Therefore you can learn from the other teachers. Since this was an after school program there were many experienced teachers working. The curriculum, assessments, and lesson plans are already done for you and all you have to do is following them. The system is set up to see whether the students improved in their learning.

    Cons

There were not too many hours to work per week and technology was not used. If the students do not take the final assessment seriously then it may appear that the teacher did not teach anything to the students. I know for a fact that I saw growth in all of my students reading and writing by the end of the tutoring session.

    Advice to Management

Incorporate technology in your lessons. T

    Pros

Organized material, no lesson plans to prepare, no travelling from student home to student home. Quality curriculum . Support from management.

    Cons

Must be able to move quickly from student to student. not a job for a teacher who wants to sit in one place. Must be able to respond quickly to students when ready, and prepare concise, accurate notes on student progress.

    Advice to Management

Be sure that managers are conversant with client needs

    Pros

Requires a lot of skills in time management and communication juggling priorities. You won't get bored working with the students, parents, school administrators.

    Cons

You must travel to 5-7 schools sites that you manage, sometimes several times per day. It would be good if they offered mileage.

The marketing strategy for the SES PROGRAM is somewhat helter skelter and frenetic. The tactics should be more strategic and targeted to the specific audience.

    Advice to Management

Get some professional assistance and direction in the marketing phase of the program.

    Pros

    * Very clear on student's strengths and weaknesses
    * Curriculum already made for you (you are mainly a facilitator of their learning)
    * More experiences with teaching/tutoring
    * Flexible within reason, willing to give days off...although with few hours (10-20), you may not want to do that all time
    * No need to get involved with parents! :)

Many complaints are made based on directors, I am grateful to say that I have a great director, and therefore an even better experience with this company!

    Cons

    * Struggle for hours during certain seasons (based on how many students are enrolled and season)
    * At times, students may cancel (they have a life too). However, at my center, we were given those hours back as administrative work.
    * Some curriculum was difficult for varying grade levels

    Pros

Good opportunity to train into teaching other topics/grade levels. Friendly, supportive work environment. Accommodates requests for time off just about whenever. Provides tons of support material for teaching nearly any topic.

    Cons

Hours can vary due to students' schedule and time of the year. Short training period which can make starting a little stressful if you're not a quick learner.

    Pros

    **Flexible scheduling
    - Great for stay-at-home parents (like me) who desperately need PT evening hours
    - They'll work with you whenever possible if something comes up
    - They're considerate about your schedule preference and always ask ahead of time if you'd like extra hours instead of just putting you on the schedule

    **Decent Pay
    - For the work being done, the pay is decent

**Keep teaching skills polished without the ordinary teaching duties
    - If you're a current or former teacher, you'll appreciate the fact that at HLC you don't need to plan, grade homework, nor do you have to deal with parents (unless you're an AD or Director), but you have the opportunity to stay sharp in your field of expertise (English, Science, etc.)

**If you work "on the floor" and qualify to teach test prep ...
    - No two days are the same
    - You get opportunities to earn a slightly higher rate of pay for test prep

    **Great management
    - They listen
    - They're encouraging
    - They get involved with the kids

    Cons

    - Schedule can change often, though not always the center's fault - parents call in late or sometimes don't call in at all
    - Pay rate may need to adjust in the near future as cost of living rises

    Advice to Management

I hope you have an opportunity to share your insight and experience with the CEO so that there can be continuity amongst all HLC locations across the nation and there can, perhaps, be greater experiences had by all -- employees and students alike.

    Pros

    Helping students of varied ages.
    4 days at 9 hours and 1day 4 hours.
Very detailed testing and in the approach for each student.
Getting new curriculum for Common Core.

    Cons

Wish I could work with some of the students more frequently to see more rapid progress.
Scheduling is a pain because constant changes.

    Pros

Motivated students who seem eager to learn and willing to do the work necessary to improve their performance in the related Math areas that they have tested weak in; sharp colleagues to work with; great marketing program brings plenty of hours; flexible, honest and fair management who always seem willing to work with you to help you meet your other obligations while still recognizing that the business requires that the students' needs are being met.

    Cons

Sometimes the earlier afternoon hours may conflict with full-time substitute teaching openings.

    Advice to Management

Establish a program to make student and parent testimonials to Huntington Learning Center about a Tutor available for promotion use by the Tutor about which the testimonial is about.

    Pros

The main emphasis is on student success and progress toward goals. For tutors, it is supportive and flexible.

    Cons

It is part time, and hours change week to week based on the the number of students and tutors' time frames.

    Advice to Management

The program of student assessment then a curriculum for that student based on the assessment is excellent. The inclusion of parent and schools is impressive. This particular site is outstanding in its support of its tutors as well as its students and their parents. Some materials need updating at the corporate level.
