It all depends on the management

    Personal Banker (Current Employee)

    ProsCoworkers, 401k, time off allowances

ConsManagement, expectations, changing sales goals to a point where you can't reach them, 10 cent raises if you are lucky, terrible medical benefits and cost, always fearful of getting written up.

Advice to Senior ManagementInspect what you expect, look over the compensation and ask yourselves "can our loyal, talented employees survive on this?" Concern yourself with the everyday struggles and anxieties that the middle and lower management causes the little people.

Losing the culture, quickly turning into Chase.

    Banker (Current Employee)
    Columbus, OH

ProsBenefits are amazing. 401k, great health benefits, great cause Paletonia

ConsEvery time you turn around they are asking for donations, they place less emphasis on the customer and more on numbers, managers are stretched so thin that promises are always broken. Short staffing is causing call volume to spike out of control.

Advice to Senior ManagementWe are turning into chase and that is NOT our culture. Value your employees, stop making excuses and set an expectation for customer behavior when they call in. We have been taking a beating lately

    Prosclean working environment
    some nice people

Conslow pay, high cost of opt in health plan, having to push banking products on customers to reach sales goals- customers were often not looking to be sold anything when coming to a bank but you were still held accountable for making your quota

ProsQuite a few parts of the job itself are bearable and good learning experience in banking and customer service.

ConsWhere do i begin? Centralized training and then you get to the branch and everything is different. Its a "boys club" and most branches have employees that have been there since the dawn of time. Every branch is run along corporate guidelines but as the manager feels fit. Hr and upper management won't back you up if you have a legitimate complaint and much more.

Advice to Senior ManagementReevaluate management at the branch level.

Horrible management structure with no way to report inept managers

In Store Banking Specialist (Current Employee)
    Okemos, MI

ProsPeople from corporate seem to actually care about the customers

Base Pay and benefits are competitive.

ConsDisctrict and Store Managers insist on a strict chain of command so you must complain about an inept Store manager directly to him. If you try to go higher up they just refer the matter back to the Store manager to take care of.

Incredibly high turnover rate (mostly due to horrible management)

Greatly reduced incentive plans while making them impossible to hit (it is rare for more than 1 banker out of the entire district to get a monthly incentive check).

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to you customer facing employees and realize with low sales results and high turnover the manager is usually the problem.

    Unfortunately the reviews are true...

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Columbus, OH

ProsI absolutely loved working with my peers; there are so many smart, resourceful and good people that work at Huntington. I have worked with Huntington through 3 leadership changes and have seen the very good to the very bad. Ultimately I'm embarassed that the leadership has let the perception of the company get to this point. This perception does a disservice to the talented workforce that is still there.

ConsSimilar to what many others have said, Huntington has bred a culture of dishonesty, backstabbing and at times even unethical behavior by its managers (I personally have seen this with mid-level and senior level management). As a whole, management is untrained in leadership philosophy and practices and learns from its peers who lack integrity and are untrained as well. With all this being said, there are some GREAT managers at Huntington but unfortunately the bad is outweighing the good.

Advice to Senior ManagementLike someone else said - you know what you need to do. Until this type of feedback is taken seriously and management truly wants to change the culture from within, it will not happen.

Not the job you think it will be. Read the real reviews (the 3 stars or less ones) and be cautious.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsMost of the staff (read: fellow grunts in the trenches) are good folks. Management can be iffy.

ConsHigher up couldn't care less about you unless you are a selling machine, and even if you are then you'll just get an "atta boy/girl" and told you need to sell some other meaningless product.

Good bank to belong to as a customer, awful to actually work for. Unless you like feeling like a cog, and being grossly underpaid.

Advice to Senior ManagementShow your staff that you see them more than just a sales number on a spreadsheet. Constantly bombing them about how they should sell more credit cards, and call customers to "upsell" them on more accounts is not the best strategy for keeping them around for the long haul, or making them want to stay - hence the insane turnover rate.

Most of the people in power have very little knowledge in terms of how to properly motivate people. It starts with making your staff feel valued. Some serious training in this regard is needed. If the company doesn't care about the employee why should the employee care about the job?

In the beginning I loved it, but now I wish I'd never come

    Escrow Process Administrative (Current Employee)
    Columbus, OH

ProsFlexible work schedules, the work was easy although I am not doing what I was hired to do.

ConsHR is not helpful, there is no room for advancement.

Advice to Senior ManagementI just wish that they were a little more caring and helpful. HR is supposed to be helpful and anonymous, but they report all confidential information back to management. The pay is not that well for all of the BS work they have us doing.

    Low pay, shrinking workforce

    Commercial Credit Analyst (Former Employee)

ProsCredit Analyst position taught me alot and brought some reality to my finance degree.

ConsLowball pay, 1960's culture ("old boys club"), not much room for advancement.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou already know all of this and that's what makes you Huntington.
