Beware of culture established by IT leadership

Senior IT Manager (Former Employee) The Woodlands, TX

ProsGood people in the ranks doing the actual day-to-day work. Great environment outside of the IT department. Very reasonable benefits. Great work location if you live on north side of town.

ConsThe most senior IT leadership is inexperienced and untrusting of all but select few insiders, who non-surprisingly, also primarily seem to consist of people with limited experience -- particularly IT experience outside of Huntsman. Business not engaged with IT, and as a result, leadership problems are not transparent outside of IT. Cost metrics are all that matter -- no concern about customer satisfaction, quality, or performance. There is a clear environment of intimidation, particularly toward those who question the status quo -- even if they are trying to bring about improvement. Order of the day -- keep your head low, don't question leadership, collect your paycheck, and survive another day without being belittled. Be a yes man, and compliment leadership regularly for their genius..and you'll survive fine. Make a recommendation on how to mature or improve IT performance, and you'll be brow beat to the door very soon.

Advice to Senior ManagementBeing a leader is about hiring talented people, always improving, taking advice from others, giving credit to others, enabling your team, and inspiring others through your vision, commitment, having humility, and integrity. Today, you (and you know who 'you' are) operate exactly opposite of this...and that is a problem.

    Uncertainty requirements

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThe salary scheme does meet to the market standard.

ConsThe progress on the re-org is continuing with unknown status.
Negative mindset with no confidence towards the whole organization.
No career roadmap for individual, except for selective associates who are in bosses' "good shoes".

Lack of Leadership and Teamwork. Middle management manipulates their subordinates.
No guidance is given, especially in crucial situations.
    Inflexible thoughts and guidelines.

Low self esteem working as either contractors or associates.

Corporation with questionable background and secrets.

Supply Chain (Current Employee) Brussels (Belgium)

    ProsIt has paid my bills.

ConsIncompatent and undecided managers. Micro-management. Discrimination against non-mormons. Very low level IT with a negative impact on the job.
The leadership cannot keep the speed up with the acquisitions of new plants so data base and systems are chaotic, unreliable.
Top management buys most of the plants to satisfy short term plans or even speculation purpose. So the co-workers in the plants hate the top management in HQs. This thing actually poisons the environment.
Corporation cannot keep outsourced activities under control. (Finance, IT)
Topmanagement dishonest with employees and investors.
HR unreliable and spread untrue gossips about displaced colleagues.

Huntsman have ruined the once great CIBA polymers division

Technology Manager (Former Employee) Basel (Switzerland)

ProsNone. The company is a dead end. Moving Headquarters to Texas has proved to be the deathknell of the Basel operation. They have reduced their footprint in the town again and again until it is now almost unsustainable.

ConsThey only survive by employing cross border workers who can manage on the salaries offered. There is no career progression at all, no future planning. Management jump from one crisis to another and as a result change strategy and organization on a yearly basis. The inside joke for current employees who find themselves in an unsatisfactory position is that they only have to wait until the next reorganization for it to be solved. Anyone considering joining should know that the location is very likely to close in the coming years.

Advice to Senior ManagementLeave. You have done a terrible job over the last 2-3 years.

    Identity Crisis hits the business

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Basel (Switzerland)

ProsNone, do not consider joining. The company has lost its way and most predict that it will cose down within 2 years

ConsCurrent management has lost it's way and prefers to let McKinsey rule their destiny. I predict a strong decline in coming quarters. Customers will experience declines in service levels.

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat employees like people.

Prior to purchase of Ciba by Huntsman, very pleasant and enjoying, however Huntsman upper management is incompetent.

    Technical Textiles (Former Employee)

    ProsInternational company with good benefits.

ConsMust be "yes man" to advance. Management out of touch with reality; no feel for the industry. Micromanagement rampant. High emphasis on unimportant details. No trust of employees. Fixated on outside advice.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet out of the office and into the front line and learn business.

Culture and Diversity in the workplace

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

    Pros-Location is excellent.
-Benefits package is more than what is typically offered.
-Pension and 401k plans are very well planned.

Cons-Leadership is limited. The current style of leadership is lacking and does not show any diversity. It is very one sided and there are no advocates for the employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe leadership teams should become more diverse and listen to the employee base before making decisions. The salaries and merit raises should be fair across the board and not based on one person.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
