    Pros

It is a well known company in the field, and that's all.

    Cons

There is much back-stabbing or position fighting. The pay is below average minus not having a bonus structure. There is little opportunity for advancement. The environment is terrible, with managers that lack any experience in the field. Worse, human resources don't even protect employees from the misgivings in customer service. There is no one that will listen, so these terrible managers behave like queens. I don't understand why anyone would work for Huntsman versus any other petrochemical company. But the biggest turn off is that Huntsman does not seem be interested in identifying and retaining the right talent.

    Advice to Management

Competitive organizations don't pay bargain bin salaries if they want to retain quality employees. Focus more on long-term company goals and growth than playing children games to manage performance.

    Pros

Huntsman is an exciting environment becase things are often changing through divestment, acquisition, etc. It's also an international environment with opportunity to work with people all over the world, particularly Europe, England, China, Singapore, Australia, etc. Many of the products Huntsman makes are market leaders, and the company is in some good business sectors with impressive growth rates. Huntsman has taken tough decisions in the past about its future, and the Huntsman family seems genuinely committed to doing the best thing for the busienss, the shareholders, and yes maybe even for the employees. Huntsman is a large comopany which in theory offers opportunity to move between departments.

    Cons

In some of the functions there is little or no communication from C-level and director level to managers about strategy, plans, etc. This becomes particularly apparent at times of stress, e.g. resource cutbacks, when it becomes difficult to know exactly where to focus efforts in order to get the best outcome. Promotions often given based on personal relationship rather than best person for job and career opportunities are not well advertized internally. In some functions there is a high reliance on external consultancy, which is perceived by employees to be expensive and not at all value adding. Some businesses are run in a very command-and-control style, with little involvement of staff in decision making.

    Advice to Management

Talk more to your staff, listen more to your staff, trust your staff more. Be more transparent in career opportunities.

    Pros

Prides themselves on providing above average salaries and conditions for the region (north east of England) and opportunities for advancement.

    Cons

Below par training, over-worked staff members, micro-managing management, lack of constructive feedback and a somewhat backstabbing atmosphere. Trust no-one.

    Advice to Management

Your priority should be your frontline teams and you need to be genuinely interested in supporting them. Please take time to really make sure that the training provided is adequate and that the people you hire to train and manage others are actually qualified in doing so. The market (which you're very concerned with) will actually be more amenable and patient with you, than if you rush this vital process. If your staff suffers health problems due to stress, the solution is not to give them good benefits and health insurance alone, but to make sure that the working environment is as stress-free as possible. There is a comical emphasis on Health & Safety, but the fact that there isn't enough time for lunch or toilet breaks gets brushed to one side. Seriously question if the answer to a happy working environment really is done through KPIs. Dare to be different, because currently you're not - you're just boring corporate and not unique at all.

    Pros

The senior management team are diplomatic to associates views. Do not macro manage and work life balance can be achieve.

    Cons

Lots of backstabbing at operational and middle management. It's about who you know and associates to get that promotion. Maybe this is norm in mnc.

    Advice to Management

Learning and development should be available for all level of associates across divisions and not biased to just certain groups. If people are trained, will help to minimize sense of insecurities and be more confident to take ownership. Senior management and their secretaries should consider 360 degree evaluation for unbiased views.

    Pros

Great benefits. Good products. Some good people in Customer Service.

    Cons

Caring about employees is a facade. Communication between departments and management is horrible. Must be a "yes man" to succeed.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees about their concerns. Think outside the box. Be truthful, forthcoming, and honest. Reconsider some leadership roles.

    Pros

Overall, Huntsman is a decent company. They have great benefits, very friendly co-workers, cover a broad range of industries, look for acquisitions about every 2 years, take action on decisions when they're made. And, fortunately, I found most offices to lack the normal politics.

    Cons

Oh, the list is quite long. The Huntsman family prides themselves on having loyalty to their employees, but I found that to be far from the truth. After working there for over 5 years I've seen they are are far more concerned with satisfying shareholders than the employees. Many times they paid out an exorbitant amount in dividends while providing little to no incentive payouts to the employees. They have acquired so many companies over the years that they have been unsuccessful in aligning synergies, thus, they work highly inefficiently. I found the management to be disengaged and seems to lack the interest in the operations side of the business. The structure is very segmented and quite lean with the corporate office being very fat...too fat...as common in most corporate environments. Because of the segmentation employees often are only responsible for their very small piece of the pie rather than being engaged in all aspects of the business. This lends itself to a very unchallenging environment and a lack of accountability on the part of many employees.

    Advice to Management

Give your employees a voice and listen when they speak. Show your appreciation to your employees in all offices, not just corporate.

    Pros

Interesting Industry, charismatic CEO, Rules can be challenged No short of challenges, place for Mergers and Acquisitions, superior knowledge in technology and research

    Cons

Low Care/Respect for employees, knee jerk reaction fr management, relationship matters, lack of structured development and career progression, need for competent people in various functions, including mgt

    Advice to Management

Get to the Ground! Be genuine about the people who make things work. Be Objective abt the real performers vs people who just talk and don't deliver.
