    I worked at Hyatt

    Pros

For the majority of the many years (10+) I spent working for Hyatt I loved the company, the people I worked with and for, the team enviornment and the focus on community. For mid to upper management positions, Hyatt agressively promoted from within and had wonderful training opportunities. Salary was in line with other hotel companies for management positions and the benefit package was competitive.

    Cons

Going public changed the company as did economic challenges in 2008 and beyond. I think a lot of decisions were made by GM's and Regional teams that were not in line with the culture that I had grown up with. The focus was revenue generation and cost cutting over all else I believe a company needs to be profitable but there were decisions made that crossed lines and effected the company in troubling ways for many years. When I left there seemed to be an "old boys club" atmosphere that was out of touch and often times offensive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When managers leave Hyatt for other companies or industries, especially leadership committee members, I think it would be a good idea to have someone from Corporate HR do an exit interview to better understand what is occuring in the field.

I worked at Hyatt full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Overall the workers both in corporate and hotels are very talented and enjoyable to work with. Some great experiences had there and amazing hotel benefits to take advantage of.

    Cons

Infighting and insecurity at the top level has caused many talented people to lose their jobs or pushed out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide more cross-functional advancement opportunities, particularly for individual contributors who played a significant role increasing Hyatt's asset base and portfolio of hotels.

I have been working at Hyatt full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The people make this a great company to work for in addition to a good work-life balance. Managers are generally engaged and give you increased responsibility if you earn it while supporting development.

    Cons

Compensation is not very competitive and limited career growth opportunities. There is definitely a message to employees that you need to leave Hyatt to get promoted.

CEO and C-Leadership are very detached and there is a lot of politics between departments that slow down progress

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Retain top talent by paying more competitively and offering more growth opportunities

Speed up turnover for management and try and manager inter-department politics better

I worked at Hyatt full-time for more than a year

    Pros

If you plan on a career in hospitality, Hyatt provides its employees with the ability to grow in the company through a network of professional growth programs.

    Cons

It is quite competitive depending on the department requiring countless hours and a commitment to outshining the rest.

I worked at Hyatt full-time for more than a year

    Pros

There are a lot of opportunities for the right people in the right hotels. If you are lucky enough to have a great director, you can learn a lot from them and they will help you to move along with your career. There is also the ability to move throughout brands and advance through several hotels in the area, but there is little ability to promote within a hotel until people move on. Each transfer and lateral promotion also receives a raise.

    Cons

In my hotel, the leadership committee was very much a clique who favored and promoted those who they liked most, not always on merit. It's unfortunate that this sometimes meant people were pushed out who would have otherwise had great potential. Other downsides include poor work/life balance and long hours. Some managerial positions are hourly and the business flow sometimes means that managers are only making $900 every two weeks. There are a lot of people playing the corporate game and so much of performance is based on your name being mentioned in customer surveys.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The company values are great and in place. Some managers have misplaced conception of time management and prioritization; some department heads have become detached from the operation and forget what running an operation actually takes.

I have been working at Hyatt full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great pay good benefits some paid holiday, no shortage of hours

    Cons

Managment is backwards not a whole lot of communication(example one manager tells you one thing another says something then the email they send the whole call center says something else).. They rolled out mastery progression in janurary and since have only trained a handful of ppl but yet still require everyone to meet standards that are not trained for.(For example they expect you to avg 48 to 50 percent of all calls you take, not realistic when every call counts. Now if you are gp trained your calls get backed out, not fair. There are firing good associates, even if your literally 1 percerent off your goals! Whata joke.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Train your associates and give them the tools they need to uphold your standards

I have been working at Hyatt full-time

    Pros

You build great relationships with others. And they offer a lot of opportunities if you like this type of industry.

    Cons

Sometimes you do not get recognized for your hard work. Especially if you are there a long time you end up being forgotten. They don't care if you actually have a life outside of work. When they need you on holidays or big events, they expect you to be a team player.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop and look in the mirror did you forget where you were before you were a manager? Just because you have power over someone does not mean you should use it against them.

    Pros

Great people work there and you always have fun with your coworkers. There is some autonomy and freedom on how you chose to handle certain customer situations.

    Cons

Awful scheduling. Managers are not considerate of work life balance. Very low pay for what you put up with.

I worked at Hyatt full-time for less than a year

    Pros

They offer very good pay and benefits. The hours are consistent and they feed you when you are at work (very delicious food)

    Cons

It's a very fast-paced work environtment where sometimes you end up paying for other people's mistakes and have to take it with a smile on your face. I particulary had horrible supervisors in the Aviara Resort in San Diego, CA.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't give peple management positions if they don't show basic people skills.
