    Pros

Nothing too special about Hyatt. No problems, but no rave reviews either. A fine part-time job for students, which is what I was while working for them.

    Cons

Lots of turnover. This is likely common in the industry though. Can be frustrating having to work with new people all the time.

    Advice to Management

I was a student when working for Hyatt. Never once was I informed about opportunities that could exist with Hyatt after I graduated. That would have been nice.

    Train all staff equally.

    Pros

Friendly work environment with a genuine focus on promoting their "Hyatt Family" mantra. Lots of events and benefits focused on line-level employee engagement.

    Cons

The opposite is true of managers and salaried employees. My specific property was in a union environment so the company was at the mercy of the Union. Lots of time, and ultimately money, was wasted in the day to day dealings with the Union.

    Advice to Management

Your managers are your bloodline, treat them with the respect and dignity they deserve. The union environment is extremely harsh on new/ young managers.

    Pros

Very nice people. They try to foster a welcoming, family type of atmosphere. Nice perks--Free food, free nights after a year, employee discounts.

    Cons

Policies are too restrictive for sick time. People get sick -- no need to punish them for it! There is one REALLY bad manager at this particular branch and no one seems to want to do ANYTHING about it. HR should really take notice when everyone outside of a department knows how bad the manager is because his/her reputation and outrageous tactics. Not as much room for growth/promotion as they try to say there is.

    Advice to Management

There are some good managers and one bad apple spoils the bunch. They know all too well who that "bad apple" is, but refuse to do anything about it. And you will continue to lose good people because of it!

    Pros

good benefits, family oriented atmosphere, non-management employees are very hard working

    Cons

they encourage "voluntary" overtime, when something is broken your are blamed even if you forewarned management of it's impending demise, they will take advantage of your kindness, most of the managers are relatives of someone higher up in the company

    Advice to Management

appreciate your employees, and maybe work just as hard as them if not harder, set an example

  9. good company

I have been working at Hyatt

    Pros

Great benefits , clean venue, great staff, good attitudes, regular guests . I really don't have much to complain about , an overall good experience

    Cons

The location could get somewhat crowded at times but it was manageable especially since there was a spacious and comfortable lobby and alot of guests are regular guests that understood the difficulty of the rush hour.

    Pros

People I work with are great. Enormous opportunities to learn and better understand the hospitality industry.

    Cons

Company policy and compliance expectations can be overwhelming at times. Being well organized is crucial.

    Advice to Management

Pay close attention to department managers and supervisors. Understand the different individual operations/departments and require all department heads to own and understand their responsibilities. Clear lines enable better team work and helps identify expectations.

    Pros

The hotel discounts and free rooms are a great benefit. And being able to meet new people have unique interactions on a daily basis is rewarding

    Cons

The pay is terrible for the front office staff which is the core of any and every hotel. The hotel discounts are great but you can never get consecutive days off to enjoy a vacation to take advantage of those perks
