    Pros

Creating and executing projects on a global scale. Learning is unlimited for individuals interested and willing to look/find it. Cross functional teams can be very strong with deep industry experience, education levels and agreement to do the right thing in a flexible working environment.

    Cons

Sales tends to be placed on a pedestal in all situations, bonus' are meager and individual managers make/break your next career move (although that is most places).

    Advice to Management

Be more long term focused and strategic

    Pros

This internship was a great introduction to a larger more traditional company. My co-workers were all intelligent people. My boss was good at encouraging and providing continued work with IBM (part-time work during the school year). I was allowed to work overtime and allowed to take time off / or work remotely whenever I needed to.

    Cons

There was a lack of passion in the work being done. The compensation is average. There were not many opportunities to meet with other interns. There were no company outings or trips. For the most part, I had no opportunities to interact with the people on other teams.

    Advice to Management

More corporate events. Increase intern interaction.

    Pros

smart people. a lot of structure to follow. Can learn a lot of different fields and technologies if you put your mind to it. Generally, a pretty easy job. People are pretty forgiving and willing to teach you to learn.

    Cons

Mindless forms to constantly fill out that made no sense. Primary job duties weren't as important as doing mindless tasks to appease a bean counter.

    Advice to Management

care for your employees, and the employees will care for you.

    Pros

IBM is truly a challenging place to work. There are a wealth of Resources internally to the company. IBM is truly focused on providing quality solutions to its client and is interested in building long term alliances with its customer base

    Cons

Due to it large size, it is sometimes difficult to navigate the wealth of resources and determine how to best utilizes resources to maximize its potential to the client.

    Advice to Management

Bring together various departments and determine the best methods to maximizes shared experiences. IBM has many silos of excellence, try to bring together those silos to provide a more unified solution to client

    Pros

-From a sales perspective, you never have to explain who IBM is, what they do, the company's financial health, etc. -If you can be part of a growth/investment area within IBM (Cloud, Analytics, Mobile, Social, Security) then you have the benefit of some of the most powerful minds, R&D activity and customers behind you to help sell. - Good culture and workplace - there are jerks here, but they seem to get noticed and dealt with pretty quickly. I've never had a boss that was incompetent and/or a jerk for more than a few months. - Mobile work - can go to an office or work from home - Good work/life balance opportunity - Benefits are pretty good and there are many perks at retailers, parks, etc. for IBMers. - Bring your own device for mobile and laptop

    Cons

    - Quota plan is split into halves - so you have a fist half quota and a second half quota. These can vary greatly from one half to the next and it often thought that Management uses this leverage to keep commissions lower. Or you can look at it as two opportunities to hit accelerators, but as we all know in sales, customers buy on their schedule, not yours... - There are many layers of middle management that are paid handsomely, but I could not explain to you what they do other than take data from the field and communicate it up. Past my third level manager (and I have 6 people between me and the CEO), I have never seen or had any involvement with these managers other than seeing them at conferences or all-hands conference calls which are all fluff. - Getting help at IBM with things like payroll or benefits or IT assistance can be daunting - the joke is that IBM stands for "I'm By Myself" For all the people and resources available at IBM, sometimes you have to raise your hand pretty high to get noticed, but the help is good once you get it.

    Advice to Management

    - At the highest levels - keep up the good work! No job or workplace is perfect, but after 4 years here at IBM in my 21 year total career, IBM is one of the best and more balanced places to work. It's a good culture. - Reduce the layers of expensive management rather than frontline and customer facing employees.
