    Summer Intern

    Engineering Intern (Former Employee)

ProsThe people were nice and helpful
I learned so much in terms of lab experience, project managing and self regulation.
They didn't micro manage. They gave me a project and left me to figure it out and I could ask questions/help at any time.
    Pay was alright.

ConsIt's a corporation. Nature of corporations are not "friendly". There was a massive lay-off during my internship and I saw first hand how this 'reorganization' affected lives.
They didn't offer me a job because of the 'freeze' that was on the company.
They don't give you recommendations outside of the company.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend

    Intern

Intern (Current Employee) New York, NY

ProsAmazing People, environment. A lot of transparency and opportunities for interns

ConsNothing! It was a fantastic experience, Interns are treated extremely well and given actual work responsibilities similar to entry level.

The experience was practical and valuable as an intern

    Intern (Former Employee) Raleigh, NC

Pros+ Helpful, friendly workers willing to help anytime
+ Practical big corporation experience for interns
+ You get to develop, test, and present a good amount of code as a developer

Cons- Company morale is not high as benefits tend to dwindle each year for employees
    - Some disconnect between higher ups and developers
    - As a large company there is a good amount of bureaucracy and red tape

Advice to Senior ManagementInvest more in the culture of the company and in the happiness of your workers; you will then retain the best talent and gain a more enthusiastic and productive work force.

Slow fat dummy elephant which can no longer dance in China

Consultant Intern (Former Employee) Shanghai, Shanghai (China)

    ProsStable environment and average challenge

ConsLow efficiency, long waiting time. High barrier communicating with colleagues and always have excuses when asking for help. Cold as in the icy water.

Basically just a group of smart people

Software Developer Intern (Former Employee) Raleigh, NC

ProsRelaxed atmosphere full of people dedicated to their work. IBM only seems to employ people who are very enthusiastic about their jobs and management never needs to really step in and get everyone on the same track, they all instinctively do that themselves.

ConsThe large size is intimidating and often doing your work requires hunting down someone, possibly across the globe, with that one vital piece of information you need to continue your work.

Advice to Senior ManagementNot every product needs the word "Smarter" in front of it.

Big and good brand, useless management

Sales Support Student/Intern (Former Employee) Dublin, Dublin (Ireland)

ProsBig company and leading brand in the field.

ConsCompletely number-driven management, often unable to look beyond the current quarter. Lower and middle management fairly distached from actual work done by their employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementEngage more with the day to day work of employees to get the ability to qualify the numbers reported.

ProsI am treated with respect and given a lot of flexibility with schedules. As a student I am very happy to be employed at this great company.
