I worked at IBM full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Pros? Are there any? I don't think so.

    Cons

    Salaries are 20% below industry.
    Executive management is incompetant

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management is obviously unable to make rational business decisions, so no advice would work. Continue plowing to the 2015 Roadmap and watch your company continue plummeting.

I worked at IBM full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Schedule flexability on non close work days

    Cons

No Raises in 7 years, added work load without compensation, salary based so no pay for extra hours worked in month and quarter close. Too many layers of management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Think about the customer and the employee instead about your personal wealth. Listened to many of the top level people give speaches at site meetings that "It is our time to be rewarded ".

I have been working at IBM full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Barely working 30 hours a week
    Easy work
    Good work life balance
    I chill all the time
A monkey could do your work (I guess its a good and bad thing, depending on your perspective)

    Cons

    Not enough work
    Work is meaningless
Work is repetitive, a monkey could do it
    No room for growth
    Office politics suck
Someone got an offer to move to a different industry and the second line manager rejected it! They don't want you to grow and do better things.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give us a chance to shine and balance the workload. Give us an incentive to do a good job.

I have been working at IBM full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

I have nothing good to say at this point

    Cons

20% underpaid versus the market, pay freezes, bonuses are almost unheard of, all decisions are made based on the 2015 roadmap which means they are focused on reducing costs at all costs with no thought to the long-term ramifications

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Wake up, morale in both hardware and software is absolutely non existant. You've taken pretty much everything possible away (secretaries, supply cabinets, Thanks awards, snow removal from the parking lots, pensions, bonuses). Everyone I talk to on a regular basis is actively looking for other employment.

I have been working at IBM full-time for less than a year

    Pros

-Big Company (Could be good or bad)
    -Nice people

    Cons

    -Terrible training
-Nothing to do most of the time with exception of month-ends.
-Have to work some weekends even when you have about 1 hour of work to do
-Brutal pay, but HEY you aren't doing **** anyways

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    -Learn how to train people
-Increase pay, but provide more work to individuals, many people could take the work of 2 or 3 others and have no problem (save IBM lots of money). I would gladly have twice the work for only 50% more pay.

I have been working at IBM full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

IBM employees still have good reputation, even though management does not.

    Cons

Executives have totally rejected the values and principles of the Watsons. People are not valued, and short term profit is pursued by cutting quality, service, and skilled employees. Effectively no raises for most US employees for the last decade except for executives. Bloated bureaucracy with 5-6 layers of vice presidents (out of 8-9 layers of management) between the average professoinal and the CEO. Just when it seems morale can't get any lower, executives find a way to knock it down more. Withholding 401k match is the latest scheme.

I have been working at IBM

    Pros

Ability to work from home most days
Somewhat flexible at hours, start / stop time
Good Technology and resources for job

    Cons

Poor poor pay vs other companies
    Terrible "rating" system
    No pay for performance
No job growth or ability to move to other jobs within IBM

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

IBM needs to give back to the people doing the work. My pay is less than the minimum paid by other companies, according to IBMs own results and I am a 2+ performer past 6 years and 11 out of 12 years I have been here. The benefits keep getting less and pay is lagging way behind. Morale is at an all time low. Company made record profit, but my variable pay went down by 15% !!! My raise last year was less than $1000 for the year. I am salary and required to work every month end and I get nothing for it. Upper Management really needs to look at how the U.S. workers are being treated if they want people to continue to perform at a high level.
