    I worked at IBM

    Pros

Believes in work-life balance, offers great medical benefits, 401k, vacation, personal time. Sensitive to personal issues. Room for advancement, may opportunities within the company in different areas/divisions, Great people to work with and extremely intelligent. Can work from home depending on job.

    Cons

Salary is not great. Hours can be very long at EndofMonth and EndofYear. Training - might have to depend on own initiative and research since everyone is always busy, but everyone is very knowledgeable. It seems there are 'Resource Actions' every year, therefore, always wondering if you will be affected. Have seen employees train new folks, only to be let go or have seen many jobs relocated overseas, etc.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

IBM is one of the companies that moves positions/jobs overseas instead of keeping in the Americas. They contribute to our 'out of work' population. Very sad for such an outstanding company since so many terrific individuals with so much talent are let go and it has nothing to do with performance. Gone are the days of 'get your foot in the door, do a great job, and you have a job forever'.

    Pros

IBM respects the individual and provides excellent career opportunities. Personal development and work-life balance are primary elements every IBM people manager is expected to work with employees on. IBM has great career growth opportunities and a broad range of career paths.

    Cons

Over time the benefits have been reduced but frankly the global market drives compensation so blame the economy not the company.
