Amazing People, environment. A lot of transparency and opportunities for interns

I have been working at IBM as an intern (more than an year)

    Pros

I am treated with respect and given a lot of flexibility with schedules. As a student I am very happy to be employed at this great company.

    Cons

Organization of certain programs and groups might need some work when things come close to deadlines.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to understand the work their employees do and use that information to make better deadline decisions.

Former Employee - PhD Research Intern in Yorktown Heights, NY

I worked at IBM as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Access to a vast range of resources (financial and otherwise) for research, excellent mentoring system for research interns and strong encouragement to be creative. Excellent pay for research interns, excellent benefits (housing) and relocation offered.

    Cons

Few work related cons, except that I interend over the winter and no transport was available from housing unlike in the summer. TJ Watson is very isolated and impossible to reach by public transport. Taxis are not expensive though (Typ 15-20$ from TJ Watson to Mt Kisco)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep running the research intern program, and perhaps consider a little closer how to coordinate interns who do not intern during the main summer block

I worked at IBM as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Compensation for an intern was competitive. Management that I dealt with was very helpful and supportive. Lots of respect for your work by allowing space for you to complete your work.

    Cons

There wasn't a whole lot of change. Week in week out, it was the same daily routine. There was no opportunity to be hired to a full time position from the one I was in.

I have been working at IBM full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Pay was really high compared to what I'm supposed to get for being so junior. Nice office, really cool building, and really great people. A flexible schedule, yoga lessons, and gym. The company is really large and you feel like you belong.

    Cons

No catered food and other things you can expect from a place like Google I guess. Also lots of bureaucratic tape I find. I didn't really get affected by that too much but I know my co-workers did.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Less tape. More food.
