  3. A good company but a dying industry. The people are generally nice, I was there on a summer scheme and grad scheme.

    I worked at ICAP plc

    Pros

The people, the environment, the job. Electric is the way forward, voice is slowly diminishing. The approuch to recruiting was tough and they seem to favor what would have been 'bankers' who want to be 'bankers' but are using this as a back up, instead of those who actually want to be a broker.

    Cons

The industry is going to die. The company has little morals, if the costs > benefits for your desk then your out of a job. The lease to their london building is up in a year and with the swap going towards electronic, I predict a huge loss of jobs as they focus on electronic and drop all the useless voice desks/

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Its a people's industry. Why not hire people suitable for the job, instead of boring LSE graduates that have spent far to much of their life in the library.

    I worked at ICAP plc

    Pros

People in the department provide very good training and development. They were very patient in explaining the accounting concepts.

    Cons

Office Culture: ICAP was going through a restructuring process for our department and it clearly affected the moral of the employees. Fortunately the leaders took the initiative to organise get together sessions to boast the moral within the department
The employees were very helpful in providing advice to each other.

  6. Dynamic, client-driven work requiring brokers to be resilient and agile.

I worked at ICAP plc as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Great client entertainment opportunities, dealing with traders is part of job. Lively working atmosphere on the voice broking desks. Able to see electronic broking too.

    Cons

Need to be thick skinned. Able to take critique of character. Sometimes long working hours as it is dependent on the global market. Voice broking desks for some products do not have much volume.

I worked at ICAP plc full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The staff in my department were excellent, both professionally and socially. The daily work load was full on, but that's the way it should be.

    Cons

ICAP are like a "feeder" club. They get trainees in, train them up, don't give the wages, benefits that the individuals require, and then lose them to competitors who recognise the value that these experienced individuals now provide. ICAP is a good starting place, but you will be looking to move on after a couple of years to get the wages you deserve.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay your staff what they deserve and stop losing your best staff (and your clients) to competitors.

I worked at ICAP plc as a contractor

    Pros

Entrepreneurial executive management. Very little bureaucracy and the opportunity to make a difference every day. Small but global enterprise provides opportunities to work in a lot of different cultures. with the financial markets in revolution this is a great chance to be part of inventing the future.

    Cons

Entrepreneurialism and enthusiasm can mean that strategy is not thought through and leads to a lack of a single direction

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure that everyone internally knows what the mission of the company is
