A Company That Lives its Values

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Englewood, CO

I have been working at IHS full-time for more than 5 years

ProsValues-led global company that provides growth and opportunity for employees who take advantage of them to improve their careers. Strong leadership with an operating strategy to which the company adheres, which is important so colleagues know what is expected of them. As a global company, plenty of opportunity for employees to gain experience in a variety of international business operations that will enhance your career at the company or with another company.

ConsIf you enjoy a stimulating, rapidly changing and fast-growing environment, this is the place for you. Otherwise it's not. Sometimes you feel there are not enough hours to get your work done, but because the work is stimulating and the scope is broad it often is not a problem. Company manages to a budget that helps drive profitability, but in some instances requires limits to travel that would be helpful.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue your efforts to constantly communicate with employees. Focus even more on cultural differences within global operations to make the company as sensitive as possible to the culturs of all the different employees. For example, maybe more translation of internal communications.

I love working at IHS!

Senior Software Engineer (Current Employee)

I have been working at IHS full-time for more than 5 years

ProsThe benefits are top notch, including a new one this year: paid volunteer time off.
The company seems very stable with a good future of growth.
Developers are empowered to contribute significantly to both the products and the process.

ConsGrowth through acquisition has resulted in some confusion about vision and direction, especially in management.
IT does not seem to handle issues with the right priority/urgency, but this is a common problem at most companies.
Company seems unreasonably hesitant to make necessary hardware/software investments at times.

Advice to Senior ManagementConsolidate some of the management positions - there seem to be too many layers. Open up more 401k investment options (ETFs anyone?). Switch from E*Trade for the stock plan to any other broker.

The excitement surrounding the company's current and potential growth is infectious!!!

Manager (Current Employee)
Englewood, CO

I have been working at IHS full-time for less than a year

Pros*Because IHS is such a highly acquisitve company, the pace is very fast. In a good way!
*The executives are all extremely cordial and welcome feedback
*Great work/life balance
*The synergy amongst employees is the best I've seen at any company because everyone holds "stock" in the company and wants to contribute to it's success

Cons*Lack of office space - but at the growth rate, can you blame 'em!
*Honestly, no other complaints!

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep doing what you're doing. You have a lot of colleagues who respect and trust your judgment and can't wait to see what the future holds for IHS!

I worked at IHS

ProsGreat environment, very relaxed and there's a lot of interaction amongst colleagues
Good work/life balance
Hours are not too bad

ConsLittle opportunity for moving upward. The company is not very large, so they are not looking to expand and promote their analysts

IHS strong despite poor economy

Business Analyst (Current Employee)

ProsIHS has a unique value proposition in our market place. The combination of data products across four domains offers clients one-stop shopping that can't be found elsewhere.

ConsJust as at most corporations, the decision making process can be slow.
