I have been working at IKEA part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Their philosophy is to not micro-manage people but to let them find their own way to work. Suggestions for improvement are always welcome. They are very accommodating when it comes to a work/life balance. I know this from my own experience as well as others. Health insurance is no longer offered to part-time employees since the inception of the Affordable Care Act but they do offer dental, vision and 401(k) to part-timers.

    Cons

It's retail so it is low-paying and the hours are crazy. Obviously, if you work in some other capacity than a store the pay and hours are different. The opportunity for cross-training is not available. They say it is but the reality is that there is no flexibility in scheduling to do so.

    Pros

The pay is great, the people there are wonderful.

    Cons

A lot of people there are not there to build a career. But not too bad a place.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at IKEA full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

IKEA is a great place to work for in terms of retail. Plenty of opportunities to grow and explore within the company. The employee perks are wonderful as well as the health benefits. Great retirement plan with 401k options. They strive to keep their employees happy since a happy worker is a productive worker.

    Cons

Although the concept of IKEA is grand and wonderful, at the end of the day you are working with people who see it as just a job. Neither them nor the management see the IKEA ideology and do not care for it. The benefits are great, but the pay isn't. I guess it depends on which department you work in and your rank (HL1, HL2, HL3, Team lead etc.). Depending on your superior(s), you will either enjoy your experience or it will be hell. Also, it is hard to plan your life around random days off.
