I worked at IKEA (less than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits. Even part-time employees qualify for benefits. Pay is good for retail.

    Cons

Communication issues are rampant. Was told that the company would take my side in word vs. word conflicts with customers, but still fired me over baseless customer complaint. It's retail.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't tell your employees that the company has their back, then fire them over a conflict with only a customer's word as evidence of wrongdoing.

I worked at IKEA full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The company generally has lots of opportunities for coworkers to step up, take on more responsibility and develop within the company. Benefits are very good.

    Cons

Bureaucracy gets in the way of a lot of improvements that could take place. Poor managers are drag down departments and upper management is very slow to react.

I worked at IKEA part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Ikea offers a lot of opportunity for their employees. Ikea was flexible with my schedule. Part time employees received leave benefits and education benefits that increased in time. I met a lot of coworkers and customers who made an impact on my life. My direct management were always amazing.

    Cons

Different policies depending on the store you visited. Needs update in technology to compete better with other store and make the stress of work easier on the the frontline coworkers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to all level of management and coworkers and try harder to back them up. Hire managers who care about their coworkers in and out of work because the only reason I stayed so long was because of the people.

    I worked at IKEA

    Pros

Good scheduling, the coworkers (not the upper management) are nice and fun to be around in a working environment

    Cons

Upper management was very indecisive, unorganized, petty, and very unqualified to run a contact center environment

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

All current upper management needs to be replaced with more people friendly, and qualified managers

I have been working at IKEA

    Pros

    friendly coworkers
    great hours around the holidays
    casual atmosphere
    generally fun place to work

    Cons

IKEA tries to scrape by using as few employees as possible. Often times there aren't enough coworkers in the market hall, so customers often come to cashiers with questions that are outside of the realm of our expertise. The crowds can be monstrous in the summer before all the college kids head off to school. Also, don't expect to get a weekend off unless you fight tooth and nail for it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please hire more people to assist customers; it frustrates both customers and coworkers when we're expected to cover multiple departments.

I have been working at IKEA full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Co workers are the best people to work with. Benefits are great. Possibility of moving up within the company is high.

    Cons

Under staff during sale events, overtime is not allowed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire more people. Offer every other weekends off to coworkers.

IKEA is a great company to work for if you like the retail industry

I have been working at IKEA part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits are good if you are full-time. Dental and vision available for part-timers. Generous PTO. IKEA hires people who are good at working as part of a team which means when it is super busy everyone pulls together (without squabbling) to get the job done. I know of several people who take extended time off yearly to visit family in other countries and have no problem getting time off. The philosophy of getting things done the easiest, best way is followed; managers don't micromanage people. They let co-workers work the way they want to as long as the job gets done and you're not breaking any rules. I would like to work for corporate IKEA.

    Cons

Getting cross-trained for some variety is not doable because of scheduling, hours, budgets, etc. It is talked about but never gets done. It's retail so the hours are not stable. Managers get weekends off a couple of times a month but the rest do not.

I have been working at IKEA part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Great company values, offers benefits to ALL LEVELS of employees, closed on major holidays, provides a good work/life balance, easy to advance, open door policy with management and higher ups. They really do take care of their employees.

    Cons

    Ugly unifoms.

HR needs to better explain certain policies, that are crucial instead of just generalizing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

HR needs to provide more in depth training.
