    I worked at IMS Health

    Pros

Health benefits are good. Vacation time is ample. I am having trouble specifying any other pros. I was not happy there at all.

    Cons

Dissatisfied with company culture. Too large of a company for my voice to be heard. Dissatisfied with company culture. Too large of a company for my voice to be heard

I have been working at IMS Health full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Has a good brand name in the pharma data industry

    Cons

    - Working at remote client locations is the worst as employees are isolated
    - Terrible managers
    - Employees in teams of recently acquired firms are very unprofessional and have poor work ethic
    - No career growth opportunities
    - Strange administrative processes such as multiple interfaces for time sheets, payroll information, email etc. Have to login to multiple sites.
    - Employee evaluations take months and are one sided as employees don't get to evaluate their managers

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Enforce integration of acquired companies into IMS. Be more involved there rather than sitting back.

    Pros

Some great people here at the local SF office overshadowed by a massive slow company that can not evaluate talent

    Cons

Upper Management is a mess. Seems like there almost is none except confusion, I think they do not understand the software world.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn about software if you can.

I have been working at IMS Health

    Pros

The technical team is awesome. Several business folk were really good to work with too.

    Cons

This is a technical company that has no idea how to run a technical project. They don't want to hear any feedback regarding technical dependencies of the various pieces of the project, or really any feedback at all for that matter. The business makes decisions without any communication with the technical teams, but still expects the technical team to implement whimsical changes on the fly (in production no less). The project managers are the worst I have ever worked with and are leading the projects into disaster. There is no way this place will ever produce viable software. They are an analytics company, their business revolves around data and reporting of data, but the business stakeholders have no respect at all for the importance of their database architecture and the technical complexity of the things they are asking for. The technical team is awesome. Several business folk were really good to work with too but the people running the projects make it impossible to work here since you know the projects are bound to fail.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Open communication channels with the technical side. They want to architect solid solutions, you have to give them the tools to do so.

I have been working at IMS Health

    Pros

    Great location!
    Very liberal telecommuting.
Technology is up to date and current.
Pay rate is above average for consultants.

    Cons

Hired into situation where senior DBA was combative and un-cooperative with product managers.
Managers are disinterested and come to office maybe 2 times per week in jeans and flip-flops.

Very unfocused and lack luster direction and enthusiasm missing for moving product forward. Looks like they are waiting to be closed.

Dirty Secret they don't tell you is that they(old MedInitiatives) are going to be shutdown July 2011 if they don't get long over due software out the door.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

IMS Execs, you paid $80M for people, they have mentally checked out and are only playing a waiting game until you come in and clean house or close this office.

    Pros

    Flexibility, Benefits, Tuition Reimbursement, Travel

    Cons

Working with goverment solutions were horrible, they were unorganized with a high turnover rate. Management showed favoritism, which didnt allow much advancement in other careers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get all new senior management who knows who to actually manage a company, and a better HR team who actually cares!!

I worked at IMS Health full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    Salary and work life balance,

    Cons

if you are joining as part of the production support teams, re-think
de-motivating manager, in spite of your experience, they'll tend to mistreat you.
Useless HR, they are like the people least bothered about the plight of the employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Before relying solely on the project managers to do all the work, kindly hire proper ones (highly unprofessional).
If you find half of the people putting down their papers frequently, there must be some obvious problem with the managers.

I have been working at IMS Health full-time for more than a year

    Pros

If you are from a prime engineering or management institute, IMS offers you good pay packages.

    Cons

Extremely poor and stingy management; HR policies are 'local' and not global, so you get exploited at Indian rates; managers are not qualified; nepotism and favoritism is rife; horrible workplace culture and the management is unaware of what constitutes a good culture and what does it take to get there. The directors run their own fiefdoms and turf wars are common. Nowhere have I found such a motley bunch of slackers as here, and just because they form a core team of sycophants around the boss.

Training: zilch, career progression: zilch, unless you are a part of your boss' drinking group; so get ready to be 'passed over'. My main grouse is that an employee is expected to operate within a very limited scope that neither enhances his skills nor provides horizontal exposure to multiple lines of work. I left chiefly because I felt that I was beginning to lose the development and project management skills I had acquired in my career.
Finally, the turnover in the female population is very high.I have seen my female coworkers getting disillusioned and quitting very quickly due to the strong sexual harassment culture of the place. Bosses asking out their female subordinates is extremely common and I have seen women feel persecuted when they didn't encourage the advances.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Advice to American Management: I joined because of IMS' reputation in the Americas; I recommend independent audits and a top management reshuffle in India.

    Pros

They will give u gud hike when joining however its not worth the amount u join

    Cons

    1) No growth.
    2) Its not a product company just they sell data and u dnt have any interaction with the clients.
3)Not much short term onsite opportunities and no long term at all. U are required to sign bond for 6 months even if u travel on a business trip for just a week.
4)All policies favour the company . Very cheap policies.

    Unpleasant experience

    I worked at IMS Health

    Pros

Some of the people were nice. Location, salary and hours were just about the only pros. And the cafeteria food was good.

    Cons

Everything else... Workload, departmental communication, support, encouragement, teamwork...All cons. Manager seemed to have zero managerial experience. Looks rosy from the outside, very negative and unpleasant on the inside.
