Disorganized management even for an academic institution, highly siloed organization.

I have been working at INSEAD

    Pros

Brand, global nature, quality of offerings, some top notch people, good benefits and lovely locations in France and Singapore. Alumni community is generally dedicated and interested and outsiders tend to be respectful and appreciate the brand, making it enjoyable to engage externally.

    Cons

Poor management and leadership, needless politics between global locations and among staff. Top people churn out frequently, demoralized staff.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest more in your people. Include them in decision-making, seek greater transparency across the leadership cohort and coordination (or even just communication) between departments and units.

    Pros

great brand and terrific faculty training

    Cons

faculty leadership have no experience in leading, treat staff poorly, preference given to faculty spouses and not based on performance or capability. Staff are told they are empowered and held accountable--but not given the resources or mandate to change anything. So the long time staff know they can just wait out and eventually nothing will change.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Experienced leadership is needed--at the top, someone willing to make the tough decisions. At the department level, hire professionals with experience--not faculty who have never managed.
