    Pros

Company has a great potential and great history. One of the staples of the industrial revolution in the US.

    Cons

Executive management in White Plains is incompetent. CEO Denise Ramos coming from a CFO background does not have the operational experience to run a manufacturing company. Combined with her indecisive nature and her ambiguous management style she is the wrong person for the job. In addition ITT does not have up-to-date IT systems that allow efficient operational management of the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Advise to the board, replace the executive team in White Plains.

    Pros

    There were absolutely no Pros!

    Cons

As an employee for ITT Corp, all you are is Contracted Body to what every Federal Government Agency that ITT Corp has a Support Contract. If anything happens with the Fed Client, you (the ITT Contractor) are blamed for it, ITT Corp will not support you and your employment with ITT will be terminated.

    Miserable Place to Work

    I worked at ITT Corp

    Pros

Rochester is a convenient, reasonably priced place to live. The work is technically challenging and about as high tech as it gets. The people are top-notch.

    Cons

Upper management completely out of touch with the customer base and the "business" they are in. They are completely incompetent and out for their next performance appraisal and promotion. There is no future vision other than the next quarter. Fear of layoffs is pervasive and the place has a death-watch feel to it. There is absolutely no loyalty to the employees while they continually espouse wanting to grow employee loyalty to the company - it's a one way street. There is no concern for or money spent on employee development, professional association involvement, IR&D, facilities upgrades and pay raises are miserly - the list is endless. Benefits continue to erode year after year. In 1-3 years it will dry up and blow away.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get out! The people brought in from Ft Wayne do not know the business or the customer. They have absolutely no confidence from the larger technical community and the customer base in general. The business relationships are bad and deteriorating.

I have been working at ITT Corp

    Pros

Work is challenging, and very interesting. The potential growth is very huge with a possible market of 500,000 GPS Receivers.

    Cons

The pay is too low and most employees are incompetent in GPS design. The senior management is not technically competent and ignore suggestions for improvement.

The best advice is don't work there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The senior management must listen to the employees and take action.

I have been working at ITT Corp full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

-Great people for the most part
-Great large company name to show off on your CV

    Cons

-Negative work environment which fosters a "Mc-ployees" robot work culture adapted to churning paperwork.
-Within 1 week, any new employee can see the corporation clearly values command, control and compliance over innovation, sales, employee retention, or any kind of basic professional decency.
    -Uncompetitive compensation and benefits
-Expect a 2% raise for a great employee, which is 1 below inflation.
    -Excessive bureaucracy.
-Innovation is actively discouraged by the corporate culture.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-Adapt to the local work environment and radically shift to a culture of devolution and local level empowerment if you expect any kind of success.
-Sell off business units where they possess zero expertise or knowledge
-Have someone other than an accountant at a VP level critically evaluate if business synergies exist in businesses at all across business lines.

    I worked at ITT Corp

    Pros

Some of the people are talented and good to work with.
If you can get on one of the few IR&D projects, the work is interesting.

    Cons

The company does not spend enough on IR&D.
Doesn't seem to have a long term vision.
    The defense industry is contracting.
Product line is too narrow. When a contract ends, a layoff begins.
Management doesn't follow the published values that the workers are required to follow.
I heard on a PBS show that great places to work allow employees to voice their opinion. ITT punishes employees who voice their opinion.
Want senior engineers to work unpaid overtime. They even have a document that states this.
Too many middle managers who only seem to attend meetings.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend more on IR&D. Your competition does.
The next layoff should be at least 1/2 of the middle managers.
    Follow the published values.
    Expand the product line.
Be more loyal to your employees.
