    Pros

Company is stable with good working environment. Good work-life balance: you come in on time and leave on time. Professional office setting - with large open space (nice sized offices and cubicles). Good benefits and have room for personal growth.

    Cons

Things move slow, managers don't want to "change" anything and "shake things up". New technology is rarely encouraged. Too much legacy systems and "old ways" of doing things still supported.

    Pros

My manager was a phenomenal leader and mentor who really taught me some invaluable lessons and instruction during my employment there. The employees both within the corporate office and in the field in Afghanistan, both U.S. Citizen and Foreign National, both the custodian cleaning the bathroom and the V.P. of Operations, all felt important and represented equally. She was a true leader.

The original LOGCAP HR / Mgmt team had some excellent leaders among them! They were respected for their high values and ethical standards. It was such a shame to see them split up by upper management.

    Cons

Unfortunately when large contracts with large amounts of money come into play, a companies ethics start becoming challenged. Employees hired for overseas contracts were not always given the correct information or provided everything stated in the contract. Many things "over looked", or "forgotten", in sake of the employee working overseas. Unfortunately, it does seem to be the "name of the game" in this particular industry, however I was hoping this company would have been the one to set the standard and do the right thing for the employees that work in these danger zones.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Leadership is a combination of strategy and character. If you must be without one, be without the strategy.

    Pros

You got to work for NASA/JPL, and be a part of the team that guarantees transmissions to and from space. Everyone believes in the mission, and there are some die-hard JPL'ers embedded in the ITT staff. Reasonable hours (no more than 40 hrs/wk for interns), and a good balance of field work and office work. Everyone on staff seemed very friendly and approachable.

    Cons

I was a college intern for a summer. The work got a bit tedious at times (at one point I was just cutting labels and putting them in binders), but that's part of the job I suppose.

    Pros

    People and teamwork
    Interesting challenging work
All hands meeting to keep employees informed

    Cons

ITT Systems does not do a good job at strategizing for the future resulting in lots of effort to be placed on unplanned initiatives requiring putting out a lot of fires.
There is a disconnect between senior managers and individuals that do the work
Program management functions between program areas (business lines) is inconsistent
Recognition for good work can be improved
Senior managers are not professionally trained

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Plan ahead, strategize, and prepare for the future
Recognize employees for their contributions beyond the paper certificate and award ceremony
Remove organizational layers to facilitate work and reduce overhead

ITT Systems Division is a good place to look for opportunities

    Pros

ITT Systems Division is a growing company with lots of opportunities. There are over 7000 employees all over the world with new opportunities constantly changing due to government contracts. Expect growth with LOGCAP logistical contract bids. Many opportunities for those who know how to fix things, manage people, maintain computer systems, write proposals, and general business positions. This company does far more than manage computer systems. Contracts include fixing military vehicles, base operations support (everything from locksmith to food services to security), base security, communications, space range maintenance, logistics, and more.

    Cons

Size and dynamic nature of the business can make it difficult to know what is going on. Sometimes the government doesn't even know what will be happening with a contract and this makes it difficult for management and employees to trust each other. Overseas contracts usually pay better, and while there are many opportunities, it take some work to jump from one to the next.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Actively seek feedback from your employees. Remove managers who don't live up to company values.

    Pros

The company really allowed you to move up and learn new skills if you put in the time and effort. Was allowed to train with a different section for two months, tech out and was promoted the very next day with pay. Site manager was great with getting me all the training and info that I need for promotion. The medical, and vacation time are second to none.

    Cons

Some of the senior management at the time where on a buddy system. I witnessed a few employees get promoted without the property time in their current position or training in another because they were friends with certain individuals. The screening process for new hires has to be updated. A few of the new hires to our shop had no clue on what the job required.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn to "weed" out the bad employees faster and not just move them around to different sites. Be they a regular employee or management.
