Pros – Rewarding for teachers, flexible opportunities for events for students. Campus facilities may vary, but have office basics. Hopefully you can get your own desk here.

Cons – Some practices may be rigid and unflexible; ironically, management style widely varies from each school and each department

Advice to Senior Management – Give flexibility to teaching styles. Listen to your professors and adjuncts since they interact with the students directly.

Pros – It was one of the best and worst experiences of my life. I had the opportunity to be a student and an employee.

Cons – I had the opportunity to be a student and an employee. There was no line between the two at times.

Advice to Senior Management – Pay less attention to the bottom line and more attention to student satisfaction.

Pros – Department chairs give adjunct instructors plenty of flexibility on how to teach materials to students. Materials are provided, including access to several types of media.

Cons – Students do not take an entrance exam so their abilities vary (a few couldn't write). Also, several were there just there to use their financial aid and had no interest in the program. Others (in talking about criminal justice program) had prior convictions which would preclude them from employment in the career field.

Advice to Senior Management – Continue to provide flexibility and support the instructors when student/teacher issues arise.

Cons – Very numbers driven and bad location for bus riders

Advice to Senior Management – Change school location put it on a bus route to improve student potential

Pros – got to learn a lot of stuff

Cons – term of emplyement was very short

Pros – I was an Adjunct Instructor in St. Rose, LA. This is a great place to work. It was a great opportunity to get my foot in the door and get some teaching experience. They are extremely flexible and so appreciative of the hard work you put in. The pay is very competitive and they have quite a few perks-such as appreciation lunches, etc. Depending on where you are in your life and what you are looking for, this could be a great opportunity to gain experience, network, and make a good salary. I also loved working with the students and I was encouraged to branch out and work with career development, etc. Upper managment/administration really seemed to care about the students.

Cons – No benefits offered for Adjuncts.

Advice to Senior Management – The only thing I can possible think of is when full time and/or administrative opportunities arise in the school it might be good if they approached Adjuncts to gauge interest.

Pros – Rewarding in the fact that I help a lot of people prepare for a better job and life style. It is very satisfying knowing that I help others attain their life-style goals.

Cons – To do the best we can as full-time instructors, we spend very very many hours working out-side the traditional 40 hour work week.

Advice to Senior Management – The best way to manage is to remember what it was like when you were in the field and how it affected you.

Pros – Great fellow employees. Initially highly intelligent, high spirited, and eager to excel and succeed.

Provided high quality facilities, equipment and resources to deliver our goods and services.

Keen focus on customer success and satisfaction.

Cons – Senior leadership has steadiliy eroded to a gang of thugs focused on statistical analysis for assumptions and decision making while enforcing an arcane Theory X management mentality.

The motivational model has become one of fear and punishment.

If you are an internal candidate for a promotion you are not considered the best option, you will not be competitive for a salary increase, and probably will not get selected. The preferred selction option is someone from outside the organization and to offer more pay and benefit regardless of the relative skill set.

Any company that would arbitrarily cancel employee life insurance benefits and claim it is not an important benefit when employees have not been consulted can not be trusted. Such a breach of confidence in the leadership of an organization surely marks an internal erosion and loss of trust.

Advice to Senior Management – Stop chasing the performance numbers as goals. Focus on improving your people and processes. An improvement in performance numbers shall follow!
