    Traditional Corporate Environment

    Human Resources (Current Employee)
    Boise, ID

    ProsJob Security
Competitive Salary for the Boise area
    Ethical Leadership

ConsSo traditional, sometimes not up with the times.
Touts as work/life balanced, but that is only in some areas.
Depending on what part of the company you are in, you could be held to a much higher standard than everyone else.

Advice to Senior ManagementCut HR some slack. Continual cutbacks cause employees to feel less valued. Being told you are valuable only goes so far. Being treated as valuable is something different.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Excellent company, an Electrical Utility open to innovations and treating it's employees with respect.

    Technician (Current Employee)
    Boise, ID

ProsThis is the only Electrical Utility in the State of Idaho.
The Company pays decent salary and provide pretty good benefits package, including pension plan.
    Family-like atmosphere.
This is NOT a Union shop, so no class warfair between Administration/Management and lower level employees.
It is possible to get a promotion if you really want it.
Very competitive - everybody is proud to be a member of a team, so for the most part everything is done fast.
    The Company provides GREAT training.

ConsHardly any, but the benefits could be a bit more competitive as compared to the leaders of the Industry, that have Union run operation (though IMO - unions promote mediocrity, class warfair and stagnation)

    Advice to Senior ManagementGood job!

Stay in touch with the troops and don't give them the feeling that they aren't worthy of you.

    Energy Services Representative (Former Employee)
    Boise, ID

ProsConsidering the state of Idaho, Idaho Power is one of the best employers with great benefits. They touch most of southern Idaho so there are a number of locations to work at. The have several sides - electricity supply and generation so there are a number of areas to either start in and/or move to. Has the feel of a large family work environment.

ConsMany of the positions are internal and you work in a cubicle. Good pay for Idaho, but not a lot of upside potential. Like anywhere, there are a few supervisors that don't know as much as they should about what their employees really do and challenges they really face. A lot of advancements based on who you know and who you hang with.

Advice to Senior ManagementMore advancements based on proven work skills and/or background rather than being part of the club.

    Mixed review of Idaho Power

    Software Developer (Current Employee)
    Boise, ID

ProsThe company has great benefits and the people are great to work with.

ConsThe company is unfriendly to the environment, killing salmon to generate power.
The company is extremely bureaucratic and slow to do anything. It is as bad as working for a governmental agency.
The company has far too many employees who are just waiting to retire and are not doing any work.

Advice to Senior ManagementReduce the number of supervisors and middle level managers by at least 20%.
Eliminate the pension plan and replace it with an improved 401K plan.
