Former Employee – worked at Imperial College full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – The opportunity to interact with some of the brightest people on the planet in one of the most exclusive parts of London.
Cons – Having to deal with some of the largest egos on the planet and finding that the culture is not collaborative but often destructively competitive.
Advice to Senior Management – This institution is not a for profit company accountable to shareholders in the model of a PLC so don't try to run it like one. That said, make it clear to people at all levels, both academic and non academic, how they are judged and how they are rewarded.

Former Employee – worked at Imperial College
Pros – Good salary, location, access to good students, recognised as highly (RAE) ranked, so it is easier to obtain grant funding
Cons – Faculty of Medicine is run by medics for medics. PhD scientists are second class citizens. Bar is much higher for promotion.
Advice to Senior Management – Get out of your offices and meeting rooms and into the lecture theatres, common rooms and labs! Listen to your employees - they are your most valuable assets!
