    Pros

I've only been with Imperial Tobacco for a few months, In that time i've seen the companies core values every day. It's one big Family, they are one of the very few companies left that want you to do well. I'm really happy here and I hope to grow within the company, The Tobacco Industry is one of the most honest industries to work in.. And I love it when a friend or family member challenges me about it.

    Cons

Only 1 but it is being worked on - Reporting System for Telemarketing needs some help askit needs a Jump start!

    Advice to Management

Keep the Family feel the same, don't ever forget that people work so hard because how they are cared for by ITUK.

    Pros

I have never woken up in the morning and not wanted to go to work! A bold statement however it is true. Imperial Tobacco UK is superb employer.
I don't work in HR this is honest feedback.

    Cons

Other people’s attitude towards the tobacco category. Anyone joining the company should expect some people in their lives to take a dim view of their new career. However as an employee you very quickly realise that you only sell and market tobacco products to adults who choose to smoke, so there is nothing to be ashamed of. Tobacco is a legal product and adults in the UK should have a right to buy it if they so choose.

    Advice to Management

Understandable budget cuts will always be accepted in times of recession; however there is still considerable waste within the organisation that should be reduced. This would allow for the redirection of funds towards forward thinking sales and marketing opportunities.

  6. Great place to work - managers too nice and slow to make decisions

    Pros

    Great benefits package
    Top class facilities
    International opportunities
    Serious focus on development

    Cons

Too many 'lifers' - resulting in lack of experience and best practice from other leading companies
Too many of the senior management have the knowledge and technical skills, but lack the leadership / people skills
Senior managers too corporate and lack the strength and courage to vital make decisions and drive positive change

    Advice to Management

Recruit based on merit rather than 'old boys network' mentality
Give more recognition and merit to those vital 'do-ers' rather than the 'talkers' or those that play a good political game

    Pros

You can only achieve as much as you put yourself out there - networking with the right people is essential, making yourself seen is also important. bonuses are handed out for good project work and is something to work towards. office culture is good, less politics than the english offices, flexible working hours, generous holidays and overtime system, bosses are generally nice people.

    Cons

favoritism(director level and up) - if you are good looking, smile and laugh a lot then you will get noticed more and more opportunities will be given to you - regardless of the output of your work. This negates other smarter people who might be slightly more introverted but know the business and can contribute on a wider scale. this culture impedes the growth of genuinely smart people who can potentially contribute more. This is something that is evident in the Hamburg offices.

    Advice to Management

treat people equally and they will grow and make your business stronger, they will be more willing to make a contribution rather than feeling sidelined for no good reason. focus on individuals to make them grow.

    Pros

    International Environment,
    Very good salary
Lots of interesting projects as the company is in transformation
    Clear Company Values
    Open and honest working relationships

    Cons

Some areas (Systems) and processes very old fashioned (but transformation started with the generation change)
Expect Politics like in most large organisations

    Advice to Management

Keep living the values and improve change management and comms

  10. Bureaucracy and Ivory Tower syndrome holds back the potential for growth and limits success.

    Pros

Great people. Outstanding Medical benefits. Somewhat flexible with time.
Employees are always open to adapt and follow new strategies. There's will.
Stock could be higher if practices are more organized all across the globe.

    Cons

They have an Ivory Tower syndrome: Trying to decide from the UK what's best for every market in the world when THEY DON'T KNOW THE LOCAL MARKETS. If you reflect on this, you can see why they're limiting growth and success.
Career aspirations are not taken seriously. It is mandatory to include them in the performance appraisals but nothing happens after that. There are no serious budgets for training.
Disorganized/ Bureocratic/ politically charged company. Sales and Marketing strategies are weak at best. They keep changing every quarter or so (how are you going to measure success with so little time).
The process to get investments approved is ridiculously bureaucratic and inefficient (they confuse being 'cost conscious' with fiscally responsible). Example: You can get a budget approved for a project by all levels. However, they can take away those funds at any point during the project. This creates a lot of risk of work not being delivered as planned and affects many areas of the business. I don't think they believe in best practices.

    Advice to Management

Stop the 'DO AS I SAY, NOT AS I DO' modus operandi.
You have great people who are willing to follow leaders with charisma.
BE MORE FLEXIBLE WITH MANAGEMENT IN LOCAL MARKETS (especially the US = now your bigger market )
    Embrace change
