Current Employee - Operations in Southern Pines, NC

I have been working at Ingersoll-Rand full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Benefits unmatched by the competition. Plenty of overtime if you like it. Climate controlled facility.

    Cons

Direction of their future unknown. Lack of functions that would enable employees some sense of enjoyment: ie: Christmas parties, discount group rates for sporting events or Carowinds Seniority means nothing, you're just a number.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Confidence in their ability to recognize employees contributions to the company are shot. Placing new hires in first shift positions and by-passing off-shift employees with years of service, keeping people locked in place is very frustrating. In the manufacturing world you put in your time to get a day job and when you do and get pushed off your shift, not bumped and are told to live with it no matter how it effects your home life is a little too much to take.

I worked at Ingersoll-Rand as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

I actually worked at Trane which is owned by Ingersoll Rand. Flexible schedule. It was pretty lenient. I could come in at 6 or 8:30 or really whenever as long as it wasn't outrageous hours. As long as I worked 40 hours a week I could basically choose my hours. There's also a lot of overtime if you would like that. I gained a lot of experience. People are generally friendly and love helping you out. It has a pretty relaxed environment.

    Cons

Sometimes you have to work on Saturdays because the line is working then too. They don't have a lot of direction. As an intern you have to go find your own work to do and ask around if anyone has work for them. There's also a whole blame game going on too. Managers will blame other departments for problems and its just a huge circle where everyone blames each other. Theres also no accountability so it is hard to get things done sometimes.

Great people, health oriented, invested in its people, progressive

    Cons

Not welcoming to outside points of view and resistant to challenges that could make it a better company. Risk-averse.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look to leverage the strengths of your internal workforce, especially newcomers who come with fresh ideas and perspectives. You spend millions of dollars on consultants when you have the capabilities in-house that you can leverage and achieve better results.

    I worked at Ingersoll-Rand full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Working at Trane/ Ingersoll Rand was a great learning experience. I learned a lot during my time there, and I'm grateful for that. I had a wonderful relationship with just everyone that worked there. Most of the people were so good to work with.

    Cons

The other 5% were not so good. Kind of ruined the experience for me dealing with some of the management as well as some of the hourly associates. That is what ultimately made me to decide to leave. I still miss a great deal of people there... But I'm glad I'm gone.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look within your organization to promote. Truly appreciate your employees.
