Good company, Tough transition

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Ingersoll-Rand

ProsRoom for upward growth if you are a high performer with a solid manager. A lot of the upward growth is determined by your manager and who you impress.

ConsCompany is going through an extremely difficult transition period. Tough hours, a lot of confusion for probably the next year.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep trying to promote the right people, and look internally for promotions.

Awesome place

Intern (Former Employee)
Tyler, TX

I worked at Ingersoll-Rand as an intern for less than a year

ProsNo meddling, free time to get work done and a well rounded management structure, fair compensation and also a very well hiring process

ConsWork-life balance suffers I guess, the age groups are kind of , well off - there are real old people, and really young people

Advice to Senior ManagementNothing much I can think of, it was a fair deal overall.

A great company in the beginning, but that all changed with the IR transition (my way or the highway mentality)

Work Group Manager (Current Employee)
Pueblo, CO

I have been working at Ingersoll-Rand full-time for more than 10 years

ProsPay and benefits were great, but like many companies, the benefits became "watered down" over time with employees paying more for less.

ConsOpportunities exist, but like many companies, you have to be "one of the boys" for realistic consideration. Trane was a great company to work for, but transition to the IR model was brutal.

TRANSFORMING INTO A VALUE STREAM AND LEAN MANUFACTURING COMPANY

Business Systems Analyst/Parts Marketing Specialist (Current Employee)
Kent, WA

I have been working at Ingersoll-Rand full-time for more than 3 years

ProsValues Process Improvement Analysis from the Top Levels of Management
Focused on delivering excellence to Customers
Strong NPD-New Product Development Team
Leader in the Winch and Hoist Heavy Lifting Industry

ConsNot enough investment in Infrastructure to support aggressive deliverables goals
Poor on-time deliveries performance
Not enough focus on day to day customer satisfaction issues
Aftermarket customer needs not being met
Not invested enough in the Repair of it's own Product Line. (Aftermarket support), relies on Channel Partners too heavily to provide the repair support function (giving away the store)

Advice to Senior ManagementDevelop a more robust IR-Qualified Repair Technicians Global Team to support the equipment in the Oil and Gas Industry Field
Invest in Repair, Rebuild and Overhaul Parts Kits Inventory that will support the Repair Efforts in the Field. Lead Times are way too long and do not support the customer needs of Today.

A good foundation

Production Supervisor (Current Employee)
Mocksville, NC

I have been working at Ingersoll-Rand full-time for more than 8 years

ProsCompetitive entry pay/benefits. Ample vacation time. Open door policy.

ConsPoor work/life balance. Terrible merit system. No incentive to stay in a position and perform well other than keeping your job.

Advice to Senior ManagementRetention is a problem in the Mocksville plant. Please reward folks for good performance and revamp the merit system. TEAMBUILDING is the missing link preventing morale and engagement from improving. There is way too much bureaucracy within the business and the SBU model has only added more management cost with no real improvement in output or productivity. You have to invest in your equipment, tools, and people to improve. Adding a VP in Davidson or another "coach" will have little to no impact on plant performance. The performance metrics are already proving it.

A company with many opportunities.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Ingersoll-Rand full-time for more than 5 years

ProsThere are many product lines and products at Ingersoll-Rand that leaves many opportunities to experience and learn different things. As a huge company the benefits are decent and there is a fair work life balance.

ConsAs a female it was sometimes difficult to be taken seriously on the mechanical side of the business. Even though I was technical support. People are truly resources and when numbers need to be cut then they cut.

Advice to Senior ManagementI thought the management did a good job of communicating direction.
