    Poor Management

    Bakery Associate (Current Employee)
    Asheville, NC

ProsWith an Ingles ever few miles it is not hard to find one within walking distance from your home and most of my co-worker were nice people.

ConsMy department manager never has the items we need to do our jobs on hand, then when we can not complete the jobs will curse us. Manager also claims cleaning is a waste of time.

Advice to Senior ManagementIf you know a department is failing due poor management don't just keep bring in new people that run off in a few weeks due to being yelled at, blamed for things they have no power over, and being called names, get a new department manager.

Okay place if you only want to work 2 days a week.

    Cashier (Current Employee)
    Clarkesville, GA

ProsIt's a good place for a high school student who is only looking to work a few days a week.

ConsYou're lucky if you get 3 days a week. Management gets mad when you ask for a day off. They will not let you ask off for any holidays, even if your family is going out of town to visit relatives. They say they care about employes and customers, but they really only care about making money. Management sits in the office all day and gossips about employes. It's really just a bunch of drama. I've only received a 25 cent raise for the 2+ years I've been working here.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe nice to your employes.

Good for the first few months and that is it.

    Starbucks Barista (Current Employee)
    Clarkesville, GA

ProsThe schedule is flexible if you don't have anything to do. The pay at Starbucks is only slightly higher than minimum wage, so it's slightly better than a first job as a teenager anywhere else, or as a bagger.

ConsThere are no opportunities for advancement unless you are a cute girl the store manager flirts with. The management are also quite rude to most employees including other management officials. The pay is sub-par after multiple years of work. I have been working for the same Ingles Markets Starbucks licensed store for over two years and my pay has only increased by $.25. I waited over three months for my first year and second year evaluations, which decide whether or not you get a raise. It's been over four months since my second year anniversary and I still don't have a raise in. The job only barely pays enough to take care of oneself.

Advice to Senior ManagementPlease, be more kind to your employees, no matter the department or STORE, pay them better, and make it worthwhile to them to work as hard as they can. Pay them with appreciation, if not with money. If you can do this, then your employees will take care of all the customers and your company will thrive like never before.

    Cashier (Current Employee)
    Spruce Pine, NC

Prosmeet great people there. met my current boyfriend there. n alot of my friends there. were a big ole family in some ways

Consmanagers pick favorites. if you have a family emergencies n you cant find somebody to work for u your screwed....they write you up in a heart beat... nobody gets full time ever!!! the managers are blind we had the biggest pot head before she quit...she would come back from break reaking of marijuana.

Advice to Senior Managementopen your eyes..and see whose best for your company n dont let your favorites slack.

    Worst experience ever.

    Produce Clerk (Former Employee)
    Asheville, NC

ProsHours and pay because I needed something part-time

ConsThe management is horrible. The store manager at the store I was at would cuss out employees if she was having a bad day to the point of threatening to fire to pregnant employees if they missed anymore work because of their conditions. Our department breathed sighs of relief on that store manager's days off.

Advice to Senior ManagementLearn to treat your employees like their human beings. We're not your personal slaves for you to take your bad day out on. We have families and children that get sick, pass away or family emergencies come up that we have no control over. Don't tell us that you're going to fire us if one more thing happens. Don't threaten our jobs when we have to miss work because we have to admit our kid into the hospital!! Use some common sense! Sensitivity train would do management some good.

Ingles I-Market trust out the door

    I-Market Clerk (Former Employee)
    Hiawassee, GA

ProsFor the most part, working there was relatively easy, easily handling most customer requests and questions. I also enjoyed working with some of the other employees. Some extremely helpful. Most of the POS systems were easy to learn and pick up.

ConsThe first big mistake you make and you're out the door! It had been a hot day, I'd done quite a bit of work with the AC being out. Tired, hot, exhausted.... Picked up a cord that I'd moved earlier that after the fact I knew wasn't mine and packed it into my car. Hadn't even left when the owner of the cord wanted it back. Said cord was returned and an apology and partial excuse was given but certainly after the fact not accepted. Was let go the next morning due to 'trust issues'. Mistakes made on my part, mistakes made on my part and on my immediate supervisor's part as well. A verbal reprimand or pay cut would have worked better than just getting fired for an honest mistake. A mistake that could have been avoided if I had not been hot and tired or if the owner of the cord had not left it behind. The time clock issue took some time to resolve as well, more than several days to get my timeclock number to work properly, and never did get a clerk ID number to run the POS terminals under my own name. LAME and LAZY.

Advice to Senior ManagementGive a little bit more lee-way on a first mistake, and strive to allow for growth and improvement, not just firing them outright.

Poor management thus creating poor service

    Grocery Clerk (Former Employee)
    Asheville, NC

ProsIt is easy to get a job here. All you have to do is just walk in and perform a background check. If you pass, the job is yours.

One manager was really a nice guy.

ConsPoor customer service and uneducated management. The management does not require respect from their employees so service is sacrificed. Employee training is awful.

    Well, It's A Job.

    Deli Associate (Current Employee)
    Asheville, NC

ProsThe main pro for me, is the wonderful co-workers I am blessed to work with. I have made some great friendships, here, and the way we work together, is nothing like anyplace else I've worked. Each seems to know what the other is thinking, able to take over a task without needing direction, a once-in-a-lifetime chemistry.

ConsLow pay and only 30 hours a week. Only 8.50 an hour to start? Regularly understaffed (due largely to the hour limit) which accounts for a good amount of lost sales, since customers only have so much patience before moving on. Management from store level on up through corporate is among the worst I've ever experienced. The store manager has no personality, at all; she will bark at people for no reason, whatsoever (she's even told employees that laughing on the job is against the rules). Corporate has no clue, whatsoever, as to how to run the business. A classic example is a memo issued by the corporate department head in our department, that stated in the event of a power outage, water has to be boiled on the stove, to wash dishes....only problem, the stoves are electric. They are continually slicing hours, yet adding work, and then complaining when we're not done by the desired time. A highly dysfunctional company.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet rid of the 30 hours a week garbage, let your people work full-time and quit treating them with a plantation mentality. You'll be surprised at how much better they'll work and how much sales will rise.

    Complicated

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsSolely for the work experience only

ConsManagement portrays themselves as Gods.. 95% needs training
On how to treat employees.. without us there would be no 3 to 5%
    Bonus. Does not Appreciate staff.

Advice to Senior ManagementLearn to treat your staff right.. stop playing favors .. a simple hand shake, how are you at the beginning of a shift and an appreciate you at the end of the day goes a long way. Ingles claims to be family oriented.. but actions of the majority of managers does not hold true to this..
