I have been working at Ingles Markets part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Good place to gain experience, and hone in on customer service skills.

    Cons

Little opportunity for advancement and/or raises. Employees are treated fairly, but are not given any perks or rewards. There is no incentive for hard work other than keeping your job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer incentives to employees, allow more raises, listen to employee concerns.

I have been working at Ingles Markets part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Employees are close, even upper management will treat you like a family member.
There Re many different departments to chose to work for.

    Cons

Low pay, $0.25 a year raise is the norm.
Tend to over hire, then everyone has less hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give longer breaks to people with 8hr+ shifts.

I have been working at Ingles Markets full-time

    Pros

The industry that you choose to work with must be stable, and groceries are definitely a staple for our society.

    Cons

I am personally on the stock crew, which makes for a non existent life, not to mention some very odd hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have heard you are told not to care about your employees personal life. I also heard a manager once tell someone that they did not care, nor was it their problem that the hours on the stock crew gave this person a problem getting things done during the day. Please remember although each person as an employee is replaceable, we are also human and do have needs, caring is what makes the world a better place.

I have been working at Ingles Markets part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The main pro for me, is the wonderful co-workers I am blessed to work with. I have made some great friendships, here, and the way we work together, is nothing like anyplace else I've worked. Each seems to know what the other is thinking, able to take over a task without needing direction, a once-in-a-lifetime chemistry.

    Cons

Low pay and only 30 hours a week. Only 8.50 an hour to start? Regularly understaffed (due largely to the hour limit) which accounts for a good amount of lost sales, since customers only have so much patience before moving on. Management from store level on up through corporate is among the worst I've ever experienced. The store manager has no personality, at all; she will bark at people for no reason, whatsoever (she's even told employees that laughing on the job is against the rules). Corporate has no clue, whatsoever, as to how to run the business. A classic example is a memo issued by the corporate department head in our department, that stated in the event of a power outage, water has to be boiled on the stove, to wash dishes....only problem, the stoves are electric. They are continually slicing hours, yet adding work, and then complaining when we're not done by the desired time. A highly dysfunctional company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of the 30 hours a week garbage, let your people work full-time and quit treating them with a plantation mentality. You'll be surprised at how much better they'll work and how much sales will rise.

I have been working at Ingles Markets part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    Flexible schedule
dont have to work a lot of hours (good for high schoolers)
cashier and service clerking is very easy
great people met some of the best friends of my life here

    Cons

most hours a part time person can get is 29
    favoritism
not many chances to advance career
almost impossible to get full time
99% of part time employees dont make more than 9$ an hour

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of part time 29 hour rule or make it easier to get full time. ICOP is a sham and every one knows it. Have programs set up for people who want to move up. Pay better.

I have been working at Ingles Markets full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Friendly coworkers; lots of hours if desired (I was hired as part-time and figured I'd only get about 20 hours per week, but pretty much started with 35-40 hours instead).

    Cons

Many coworkers skimp on duties, don't pull weight. Sometimes have to work way past schedule (usually because other workers leave on time without finishing their work). No benefits or vacation/sick days.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Notice those workers who are really making a difference, and show some gratitude (verbal reinforcement, raise, promotion), otherwise they'll jump ship at the first opportunity.
