I worked at Inova full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Inova has diversified culture. They give benefits like health and dental insurance.

    Cons

Management does not value the employees contribution to the company. They only care about their big paycheck but not the employees welfare. They contracted a lot of departments so they won;t have to pay for benefits to those employees who has been with the company for a long time. They also laid off a lot of people and they promised that they will help them get a job but they lied.

I have been working at Inova full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Healthcare incentive plan is great. If you jump through the hoops you can pay as low as $15/pay period for comprehensive healthcare

    Cons

Treat wage workers like children. Not trusted with time management. Even if you are on time 351 days out of the year you get "dinged" for being one minute late. You aren't allowed to swipe in "early." Even if you are assigned patients through your lunch break you are not allowed to swipe "no lunch."

I worked at Inova part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

INOVA definitely offers good employee benefits, such as retirement, life insurance, employee assistance programs. It is a popular organization, with a growing popularity. Salary is fair.

    Cons

INOVA has a policy that declines any time off request if a department is understaffed, even if you've maxed out on PTO. I was hired as a part time employee for blood donor services, yet I was scheduled full time. My manager never approved a single time off request of mine, and always scheduled me for shifts that were the least convenient or that would conflict with my personal life.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Boost employee moral, hire more full time non student employees to relieve the work load on the over worked employees. Longer breaks (30min for 9-15hour shifts is unacceptable).

I worked at Inova full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great ER, this is the only place if want to go if I were seriously injured.

    Cons

They do not care about their employees. Inova used to be a great place to work until they forgot how to treat their employees. It seems as though they forgot they are non-profit.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be kind to your employees. You need them.

I have been working at Inova full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Provides good medical care to patients.

    Cons

Pay is not keeping up with cost of living increases (0.5%) raises for past 3 years. No room for advancement in you are not a nurse or physician. No respect for physician extenders (physicians assistants, nurse practitioners, genetic counselors). Does not cover continuing education which is typically a standard benefit for physician extenders.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Value your employees and invest in them. Do not over extend the budget by building before you can afford to build without skimping on employee salaries and benefits.

I have been working at Inova part-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The people I work with at the grunt level are knowledgeable and willing to share their knowledge. Location to where I live. 5 miles from home. It's hard to find any more decent things to say about the system.

    Cons

Not staff friendly when it comes to scheduling. Too worried about what surveys say and the surveys don't ask relevant questions! If you have a family emergency....well good luck trying to find coverage. Poor, poor, pay. PRN for 10 years and not a penny raise. No benefits, no vacation pay, no sick pay. While the CEO gets bonuses in the six digit figures. Expect you to go out of your way when staffing on busy days, or inclement weather days, but no appreciation when you do go out of your way to help. Right now it is a cut throat environment. Everyone is walking on pins and needles waiting for the next blow to staffing. How they got Magnet Status is beyond me. Senior management is out of touch with what is really happening on the floors. The good directors get pooped upon because they don't play upper managements games and the bad directors are praised because they play the games with brown noses. Don't threaten my job because survey numbers are down.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen, really listen, to staff. Don't give us meaningless surveys. Let us take care of patients. It's what we do best. Your thoughts on how you expect us to take care of a patient from your glass house is not working.

    Pros

    Nice surrounds, convenient to access

    Cons

Disjointed and arrogant senior leadership. Priorities focused on wrong things.

    Pros

well-known hospital looks good on your resume, nice co-workers (mostly)

    Cons

No opportunity for growth or education, supervisors and directors give no feedback and do not move forward with changes, everyone seems like they are here to do their 8 hours & get a paycheck, micromanaging is severe, Salary doesn't actually mean salary, no flex time and you have to use your PTO on the few holidays you actually get off.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put intelligent people(who know processes) in management positions
