    I worked at Insight

    Pros

At one point, it was the people and the general work environment. At this point, I'd say it's just because you should be happy to have a job in this economy.

    Cons

Insight was once a really good place to work: energetic, motivated and filled with bright people. Executive management was always a little chaotic, but at least there was a general idea of what we were trying to accomplish. That all changed around 2002 when the core business acquired Comark and the subsequent IBM takeover was completed. I've worked in a lot of different places, and it boggles my mind how many executives are needed here to run the company into the ground. Do they REALLY need a Chief People Officer? How about ANOTHER Senior Vice President in IT? Recently they layed off approximately 240 people. I know a few of them, and NOT ONE of them was a Senior VP or higher. Amazing. Yet the stock price hits an all-time low and the core business is shrinking. Maybe it's me, but someone should be held accountable for the mess, and yet they let staff level people go when things get bad. I'd seriously reconsider working here if you don't already.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hold yourself accountable and stop blaming your staff level employees. Rich, you've had 5+ years to make your mark and all that has happened is you've increased the debt load dramatically, shrunk the core business, and watched the stock price flounder (even before the major market drop). Not to mention morale is at an all-time low. This company needs a sweeping overhaul of upper management.

    I worked at Insight

    Pros

Some of the people were very professional.

    Cons

Not a good environment for questioning the status quo. Company grew too fast in the last five years and operational processes were not reworked to keep up with the new environment. SAP upgrade turned into a nightmare that seems to not have an end in sight.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your people more. Really listen, not just sling the corporate lingo about "teammate satisfaction" and the like.

I have been working at Insight

    Pros

The best reason to work for Insight is that the services side of the business is growing at a healthy pace and the people involved in that group are generally good to work with.

    Cons

The culture is very non productive due to lack of empowerment for anyone under a VP level to make decisions and move the organization forward. They manage the company from the top down, however; the top executives are seemingly out of touch with the corrosive attitudes and lack of collaborative unity within the organization to solve problems.

There is no budget for employees to connect in the industry by attending relevant industry events or training. In essence, you have to be funded by a partner in order to attend anything and there is only so much MDF to cover such expenses.

Compensation for management positions is below market average and bonuses are very slim due to company performance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The painful, but obvious advice is to hire a company who excels at "change management" and empower them to implement better operational processes, integrate sales and marketing and fix the technology infrastructure issues that are crippling the company.

    Pros

Not a lot of pros with this company. There maybe opportunities for advancement and a raise, but it depends on who you know, not what you know.

    Cons

A lot of cons, which explains the reason for such a high staff turnover. Bullying is the worst con in this organization; the problem is prevalent throughout all departments. The management are short-sighted and arrogant, from the team leaders all the way up to the senior vice-presidents.
Customer and vendor complaints are frequent, and much of the incompetence in the company is due to poor management decisions that lead to staff lay-offs at the end of every financial quarter.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Resign.

    Pros

Large corporation, many avenues for success as a whole.

    Cons

Large corporation, heavy on politics, career advancement possibibilites only for those in the "clicks".

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide more genuine and detailed feedback of corporate direction to those in the trenches. Stop paralyzation through process. Stronger attention to services delivery teams company wide.

    Pros

Good team. Everyone is very straight forward with one another. Leadership in Montreal office on US side is first rate.

    Cons

Support roles have no advancement options. Minimal training. Compensation is well below market average.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend some time in the Montreal office and observe how we operate. Assign some leadership in the support roles so that the support roles can be integrated more strategically with the sales teams.

I have been working at Insight

    Pros

People and pay are the only pros I can think of.

    Cons

One of the most fragmented businesses I've ever been exposed to. Most service delivery managers are clueless (literally). Company promotes incompetence over and over again. Upper management not in touch with those who make a difference. The previous post about a "me too" services organization is so true.

    Pros

Worked with a lot of good people. The Company had a pretty good coworker develepment program and people. had fun

    Cons

Thought the executive team did a poor job leading the company during a tough economic time. They were 2-3 steps behind competition

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

my advice to management would be to focus on retaining key employees. There was very little effort in retaining key employees.
