    Pros

    The people at IOA are what make it a wonderful place to work. Everyone in their 26 nationwide branches is willing to help you in anyway they can. IOA was started by a husband/wife insurance agent/account manager team and they have tried to keep that close family feel in their business for its 25 year life.

    Cons

    The workload is probably the biggest con. Unlike most insurance brokerages or agencies, IOA is not set up with a separate marketing department meaning the insurance agent and account manager are sharing this responsibility. Additionally, the management staff making the decisions on job responsibilities for their staff are based in the home office in Florida. Not all branches are set up the same so the workload and responsibilities put on these account managers is sometimes skewed and not realized by the management group.

    Pros

    Fair compensation. My supervisor was pretty friendly however their supervisor (whom I went to for guidance when my supervisor was out of the office) talked down to me. IOA offers solid products and would recommend them to anyone. I just would not recommend anyone work for them.

    Cons

    No training, very unwelcoming office environment. The computer system is truly a "four letter word". It's awful. Technology is great but there is no need for so many redundant entries.

    Advice to Management

    Please train your employees. Knowing you hired an employee with minimal experience will obviously need guidance. Making your employees stay silent does not bode well for happy and friendly people.

    Pros

    Our agency was purchased by IOA and overall the benefits and pay were kept the same as what the previous owners paid which was nice. They are very into utilizing tecnology.

    Cons

    The biggest challenge after purchase was the transition. It seems they go around the US buying agencies so quickly without lining up all the logistics first and then our customers suffered because of all the problems (changing to their agency management system, phone problems, licensing, etc).

    Advice to Management

    Determine all logistics first before buying an agency and not just buy them and leave someone else to clean up the mess.

    Pros

    You work completely on your own, you can not fake that you know your stuff here as the brokers are completely out of the office everyday and you are there to service and take care of the clients on your own. Though if an emergency arises you do have access to the broker that you work for via phone. Your work speaks for in a big way. Also the company is fairly young so is the management as they really don't have management experiences. So you will encounter bumps in the road but if your looking for a place where no one is on you 24/7 then this is the place for you.

    Cons

    Management is out of state and sometimes things are not handled in a the proper manner

    Advice to Management

    Implementing managers with true management experience would eliminate alot of bumps in the road.
