I have been working at Intermountain Healthcare

    Pros

Leadership at the very top are driven to make this an ideal place to work. They are willing to sacrifice financial gains to do what is ethically right. They are very concerned with improving employee engagement and employee physical, spiritual, and emotional health. Working here has made me a better person, father, and husband.

    Cons

Big company with limited/slow upward movement that is based on time and degrees rather than actual work success and ability.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Forget the red tape of HR qualifications, interview more, and hire the best people.

I have been working at Intermountain Healthcare

    Pros

Great people to work with. Strong culture and mission focus. Good work-life balance. Leadership is concerned about doing the right thing. Has strong vision for the future and good business outlook. Good training opportunities, and a lot of change (can be good or bad). Good benefits. Larger organization in Utah (for better or worse, but I like it). For the most part they practice what they preach (i.e., large focus behind the scenes to promote what is best for the patient vs. making money, strong efforts to promote wellness).

    Cons

Strong preference for tenure (it seems to be a status thing for people who have worked a long time here). Base pay is at market or below (since it is a not-for-profit organization, the mission and culture draws people to work here not the larger pay check...at least that is the idea). Benefits are great and pension is nice, so need to consider these when factoring total compensation, because base pay may seem low.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Grow and develop your up and comers, and differentiate performers and non-performers. Continue to promote the strong culture (keep to the mission, vision, and values).

I have been working at Intermountain Healthcare full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

They take care of their employees.
    Benefits.
    Paid Vacation.
    Competitive pay.
Job security.(They do everything they can not to let people go unless they deserve it.)

    Cons

Their are politics to every job and every group dynamic. You have to learn to play the game but I have had a lot of jobs, and this is the best company I've worked for.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I really appreciate this company and what it provides for me and my family. Communication could always be better, but I have no real complaints.

Working around school scheduling once inside a stable position.

I have been working at Intermountain Healthcare full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Good work/life balance. Flexible work hours and work from home. Company overall really cares for it's employees and patients along with strong ethics and values.

    Cons

Big company with the expected red tape and politics. Hard to stay in one department and advance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take more advise from the "grunts" about how things are working out and stop trying to implement third party software to "save money". We would be a lot further along if we would have invest in our own systems over the last 15 years instead of the 3 or 4 major joint ventures that just robbed the currently used systems of resources and has alienated many of the clinicians and employees. I have high hopes and expectations that Cerner/iCentra won't turn out the same.
