    Sinking ship

Software Engineer III (Current Employee) Reno, NV

ProsCoworkers for the most part are good people.
Compensation is competitive, especially considering the low(er) cost of living in Nevada as compared to California or other metropolitan areas.

ConsThe senior management is a joke, with most of them coming from non-gaming industries. Some key mistakes they have made: 1) moving the executive HQ to Las Vegas, while the operations center remains in Reno; 2) focusing operations to try and recover lost market share in over-saturated product markets like megajackpots and core gaming, whereas they should have focused operations on product markets with greater growth opportunity and less competition like video poker and international markets 3) supporting a conservative culture, where risk taking and change are frowned upon - surprisingly, this impacts executives more than employees, for example when new VP's are hired the expectation is that they should start changing things for the better (which is risky), but the culture frowns on this so many new executive hires are simply over-paid wallflowers that don't act out their changes.

Advice to Senior ManagementTry innovating instead of layoffs. In the long run you will need innovative products to remain market leader. Layoffs are just a short-term band-aid.

Just another minimum wage job unless your friends with management

Sames Associate/Fes (Current Employee) Las Vegas, NV

ProsEasy schedule, they understand you NEED another job to work there.

ConsNo benefits any more, upper managers hire and promote their friends in a matter of days. You have to take up the slack for poor employees. Absolutly no accountability

Advice to Senior ManagementLook at your managers and take away THEIR opportunity to promote in their stores. Send employees to other store managers for interviews and get feedback. Make certain amount of time employed before promoting to specific jobs.

It could be curtains for all of us!!

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsGood Hours, Good People, Reasonable Pay

ConsManagement, Bad Decisions, Layoffs, Shady Business, Patti hart

Advice to Senior ManagementWe just finished another round of layoffs and BAM! we get news today that the company might be sold and that Morgan Stanley has been hired to help with the sale. Apparently it has been in the works for 2 months and just became public information today because many financial news stories advised on why the stock was rising. I am sure that more people will be let go and that Patti hart will get her Million Dollar Bonus on the way out......time to abandon ship!!!!

IGT was a great company at one time.

Administrative Assistant (Current Employee) Reno, NV

ProsHelped pay for college, good benefits, gym and cafeteria on site, great people.

ConsBig company, no flexibility anymore, everyone nervous about their job, bad feeling at office.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to the people who have the knowledge of what they do. Work with them to fix the issues of the company.

Poor Morale, Upper Management Doesn't Care About Employees

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Reno, NV

ProsMy coworkers are awesome, and it is nice to work on slot games. Also great time off policies.

ConsEmployees are not taken care of. No room for promotions or good raises. Constant threat of layoffs and upper management doesn't want the lower levels of employees to know anything. We knew about layoffs for months before it happened. They didn't tell us about layoffs until AFTER they announced it to the media. Layoffs were already happening, then we get an email.

Advice to Senior ManagementSeriously get rid of Patti Hart. She has never worked in gaming before, and obviously doesn't know what she is doing.

    Management by layoff

Product Manager (Former Employee) Las Vegas, NV

ProsWas a great co. Smart people and friends to work with.

ConsMultiple team reshuffles, multiple layoffs have everyone fearful and paranoid

Advice to Senior Managementwhy spend millions on new branding, logos, management bonuses, then lay off hundreds of employees?
No one in charge saw the spending and market loss coming? How many more layoffs to come?

Need to get "out of the blues"

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsSmart, hard-working colleagues with a lot of knowledge and insight, but rarely did management consult with them, or want to hear about obstacles. Great relations on my team, but silo'd teams in the department. On-site cafeteria and gym are convenient.

ConsLittle communication about overall strategy of company. Few promotions from within beyond Manager level. Employee recognition nil; morale down. So many re-orgs, people can't gain momentum. Lay-offs every year. Silos building back up out of fear and "head down getting work done." Upper management not practicing what they preach.

Advice to Senior ManagementHold people accountable for getting off the financial roller coaster instead of walking knowledge out the door as the solution. Ask your people for ideas of greatness, then give them the leaders that will take them there. Build back the pride people had years back in working for this company.
