I have been working at International Game Technology full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

My current manager and director have excellent managerial skills and use them to run a great department. The hours are flexible, the work is interesting, and the people are very professional. It's a great place to learn about the gaming industry.

    Cons

It seems there are too many layoffs. I understand that a company needs to do whatever it can to progress, but laying off people and paying out millions in dividends all within 2 weeks of each other is not a good idea. Someone is making decisions that are not in IGT's best interest. IGT's best interest is Gaming. Advancement is taking too long. It may be a bad time to be looking for advancement, but with no opportunities you will lose the talent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get back to the gaming industry... it takes talent to do just that, so please stop getting rid of people.

I worked at International Game Technology full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Everybody seemed easy going compared to most places. I also worked at Bally Tech and I hated it there! Way too up tight. IGT is a better place to work for hands down except the fact that everyone is scared of getting laid off!

    Cons

Big budget cuts as of late but the pay was still better and the benefits were good for comparable jobs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Everybody is afraid of losing their jobs. It really hurts to see the execs spending money on new office furniture and also report good earnings when they are laying off friends and family all at the same time.

I worked at International Game Technology full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The work was interesting and challenging allowing individuals to be creative and self-motivated. Great co-workers.

    Cons

Upper management does not always seem to understand the value that is added by lower level employees to the overall success of the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management tends to be focused strictly bottom-line profit at times forgetting that customer satisfaction, employee effort and product development do not always equate to increased profit in the short-term.

I have been working at International Game Technology full-time

    Pros

The executives that I deal with are very transparent, and have been nothing but supportive.

    Cons

We have had a few organizational changes while I've worked here, but I do feel that my managers have always been fair to those in their span of control.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue on. C level management sometimes does not comprehend the impacts on the front line (I guess as with most large companies).

I have been working at International Game Technology full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    Flexible Hours
Good Pay for the Reno Area
    Mostly Stable
    Making Video Games
    Challenging timelines

    Cons

Needs better execution of vision from the board/CEO.
Frequent changes in department structures may ware on some people
Employee morale is in constant flux

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Lay out a clear focus and execute. "Thinking Blue" isn't a business plan, its a gimmick. Think about the people in the trenches and what will make their lives better. Surprise the workforce with positive action. Create incentives that reward hard work and loyalty, like extra time off, per game bonuses, end of game gifts (ipods, $100 amazon gift cards, a new car, etc.) Little things add up.
