Temple-Inland was a great company, until IP bought it

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at International Paper full-time for more than 10 years

ProsI wouldn't really consider it a "pro" (but it seems like many employees do) you don't really have to do any work, and you won't get fired.

ConsNo one wants to really work, and that makes it hard to get work done, especially if you are relying on others.
VERY compartmentalized, very little chance of cross-training.
Company is headquartered in Memphis.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay employees what they are worth, good and bad. Don't be afraid to let slackers go.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Worker bees with targets

Engineering (Current Employee)
Orange, TX

I have been working at International Paper full-time

ProsSeems to be stable company. Its a very big company. Pay meets the market.

ConsYou do as your told. Micro managed to death. There seems to be a lot of back stabbing. no one trust anybody. Nobody really seems to care or be invested in the operation. We just show up and do as we are told. Good or bad. if a problem or something bad happens the managers all go into a blame game.
All the new managers seem like they don't want to be there or they just don't care. Our site is punishment duty for them it seems. Before you do anything you better have someone else set up that you can blame it it goes wrong. Your manager has you set up for their failures

Advice to Senior ManagementShare the goals. Let the employees become apart of the process. Place blame where it is belongs. One person is not responsible for failures. We will succeed if we act as a whole company trying to achieve a common goal. If we fail we all fail.

I worked at International Paper full-time for more than a year

ProsThe company pays really well and are some what flexible.

ConsYou can't really have an opinion. You have to kiss butt to get ahead and there are very few African Americans in top management positions. So as an African American, that would mean that there is a limit to have far you can climb the ladder at International Paper. It is very political. The company treats people like resources and not like people.

Overworked and under recognized

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Visalia, CA

I worked at International Paper

ProsPays well in some positions. The benefits are great and the overall goal of the company is a good one.

ConsThe amount of overtime forced on you is excessive. Working 30+ hours of OT on your check is not uncommon. If you work here be prepared to see a your family a lot less.

Advice to Senior ManagementThis company could be a better company just by filling in the empty positions on the production side of the floor. The work is enjoyable to a degree but not when you rarely see your family and friends.
