I have been working at International Rescue Committee full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The greatest aspects of working at the IRC are the flexibility and independence afforded its employees, no matter the level.

    Cons

For such a large humanitarian organization, salary does not seem as competitive as it could be. This needs to be improved to retain high quality staff.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the intellectual enthusiasm about the work that IRC does as well as the emphasis on personal growth.

I have been working at International Rescue Committee as an intern

    Pros

Supporting a great international cause and working with clients from different countries. Supportive staff members make work a lot more fun.

    Cons

Interns are sometimes treated poorly and not really recognized. Of course, this depends on different locations.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Balance work life with personal life. Up to 20 hours of unpaid work is too much per week.

I worked at International Rescue Committee as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Good opportunity to do field work and interact with refugees and immigrants who are new to America and have very little time to learn a huge lot of things. Teaches patience, compassion and bringing energy to the work-place while working at IRC.

    Cons

Sometimes the requirements become over-bearing when there are huge number of clients coming with issues in different areas. One needs to be prepared for these occasional rush hours.
