Overall, a good place to work

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsIntertek has a diverse environment and allows for learning by doing within your own position. There are opportunities for growth if you happen to have the right management.

ConsManagement oftentimes cannot perceive you in any role other than the one you currently hold so transferring to another team/division is not offered or an option. There is a lack of clear communication from management, realising that some topics should not be divulged in their entirety, but employees left to their own imaginations as to the reasons for organizational changes will always assume the worst.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagers should be tasked with writing reviews for their employees - stop using irrelevant employee self review forms as the basis for annual review.

    Moving towards professionalism

    Chemist (Current Employee) Houston, TX

ProsThis company is a great place to start out and get experience. Many in management positions do not have college degrees and have moved up quickly from starting positions. The company has been growing quickly by purchasing many small to medium sized businesses. The ranks are filling with competent, experienced people and the company has more professional management these days. The laboratories are getting more advanced equipment that can add to experience and resumes.

ConsThe company tends to hire people with little experience and pay low wages. There is very little specialized training offered by the company or through external training programs. The primary training method is on-the-job training. Very little employee development and no management training which is sorely needed. Highly experienced employees are not as valued and not compensated as well as in other companies.

Advice to Senior Managementrecruit more highly experienced employees who can give your customers better and more reliable service and compensate these employees at a competitive rate.

Good company with opportunity if you can get with the right leadership.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsI like the company as it is very diverse. There is opportunity for professional growth if the right resources, training and leadership is provided to you.

ConsThere is lack of communication within the company, divisions, teams and functions. There should be one consistent message across the board in regards to processes and procedures. More in-depth training should be provided to new employees and not just computer based on-board training.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue to improve on communication.

Placed me in a job in NYC

Project Manager (Current Employee) New York, NY

ProsThey pay well. The interview process was fast. They were doing direct placement so from the time they contacted me to the time I had my first interview was only a week.

ConsOnce you start working for them you really do not hear from them. Except if you time sheet is late. An associate of mine referred a colleague of his and he was hired and they made no offer of a referral fee. Had to go to them and request the referral fee. The fee was very low considering the quality of the hire and term that he worked on the project.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou should work with you consultants on staff and give them an incentive to look for new opportunities when working for a client.

    Inconsistant at Best

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Houston, TX

    ProsStable company with consistant growth.
business lines are starting to share information.
overall job oppertunity around the globe.

ConsVery old management style where employees lower than the corporate ranks have little say. Poor to nonexistant training for up coming managers, and current training tools are ineffective. Leans on bright stars or overperformers far too often. Nepotisim and favoritism are rampant. Revenue and margins are used far too often as how well an office or employees are performing.

Advice to Senior ManagementChange to how businesses are run today. Treat your people well and you revenue will follow.
