    Pros

Good 401k plan and health benefits. GM & Directors normally try to shield their employees from the daily chaos of revenue, profit, operational issues & sales. Good Work & Life Balance with plenty of days off.

    Cons

If you want to be a VP, you have to be in Arlington Heights, Boston, Lake Forest, or Plano. Even if you run a business of $30M a year you are never going to be a VP. Others without MBA are regularly promoted in these locations. Bonus used to be good but now its only $2000 for Directors and others get $600 vs $80k which VP's make. Pay the engineers better since they are the people who are doing the work for you. Too many engineers are leaving the organization because we cannot pay them enough. They are going to UL or SGS which sucks since they are taking our best engineers.

    Advice to Management

If you want to expand your business you need to focus on the labs and people who are generating the most revenue. Stop trying to promote your friends from Inscape.

I worked at Intertek Testing Services NA full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Entry level job is good for someone just starting out and you can learn a lot about an industry that many people don't know it exists.

    Cons

They tend to promote people based on who you know, doesn't matter if you're qualified to manage others. If people like you then you've got it made - if not, you'll never advance. Too many managers who delegate everything to the hard-working, underpaid employees. They have no problem giving you an incredible work load and when you're struggling to complete they stop by to ask why you can't get it done instead of "what can I do to help". As for the programs and software - there's a major disconnect between how all the work can be scheduled and tracked. If you don't mind working in about 7 different programs to get things done then you'll do well.

    Advice to Management

Stop promoting lazy managers who don't know how to motivate and mentor their team. Quit hiring people because they're your friend - hire people who will be loyal and work hard to make you and the company look good.

    Cons

Spent a year plus building a sales team with knowledge that my compensation plan was unrealistic . I believed finally that 2015 those numbers would be reached . They let me go before that could be realized ,someone else will reap the benefit of my hard work .

    Advice to Management

None ,they would not consider it anyway

    Pros

For some this may be an opportunity for a lifetime if you play the politics game and fit in with its senior management, much of whom have grown up in the company and know no other.

    Cons

Intertek is a large company that has not invested in systems - financial and otherwise, that are found in most large cooperations. Many of its senior managers have not been employed outside of Intertek and therefore lack an understanding of how to manage a large cooperation. It does not value its employees and has a high turnover as a result. There is minimal investment in employees and no formal on-boarding program. It does not welcome new ideas and individuals who challenge the status quo.

    Advice to Management

Hopefully, the new CEO will recognize these issues and shake up "the old boys club" and infuse a breath of fresh air into Intertek;s historical culture that has discourage innovation.

  9. Trust Your Professionals with Office Supplies

    Pros

Very much a technology and computer driven office atmosphere. The computer programs are from at least the 2005 era. The office has very few paper files and everything is stored digitally.

    Cons

Modern-day technology. If you need to get a new battery for your mouse, you just need to save the old one, take it in person to the front desk during normal business hours, they go to a locked drawer, take the old one and then give you a new one. If that takes too much of your time, just stay late to make up for what you spent. Paperless office. If you want to get a pad of paper, you have to go in person the front desk and they will get from a locked cabinet. Cuts down on filing space. And that's if you a re a professional in the office.

    Pros

20 days of PTO. Average Pay. No micromanagement by GM's or Project managers. Good office culture.

    Cons

Too many "Old Faces" and no new blood. President's direct reports who are SVP's and VP's have been around for 20+ yrs and he complains about not having new people. Why don't you talk to them instead giving your lectures to poor project managers and engineers. Personal growth does not exist in this company. You only get promoted if you work in Chicago or were working with the president when he was a sales person at Inchcape. Everyone from Inchcape is a VP or SVP.

    Advice to Management

To grow your business you need to hire sales people, spend money on Marketing and hire qualified engineers. Without a strategy you cannot grow the business and our vision should be long term. Stop measuring success based on monthly revenue and look towards the next 5 years. Whether you are in the oil & gas, minerals, aerospace, chemicals or wireless business the Technology is always changing and we have to change with it. Stop relying on info provided only by the SVP's and look for more info/guidance from GM's who are working with the clients everyday. SVP's only hold internal meetings and never external meetings. DKL is a good example.

    Cons

absolutely no advancement, work can be done by a middle schooler (no challenge whatsoever), low pay, very unmotivated environment.

    Advice to Management

we see you trying to weed out the people who don't work OT by mass hire and mass fire.
