Organic growth does not exist. Bad upper management

    Project Manager (Former Employee)
    Washington, DC

Pros20 days of PTO. Average Pay. No micromanagement by GM's or Project managers. Good office culture.

ConsToo many "Old Faces" and no new blood. President's direct reports who are SVP's and VP's have been around for 20+ yrs and he complains about not having new people. Why don't you talk to them instead giving your lectures to poor project managers and engineers.

Personal growth does not exist in this company. You only get promoted if you work in Chicago or were working with the president when he was a sales person at Inchcape. Everyone from Inchcape is a VP or SVP.

Advice to Senior ManagementTo grow your business you need to hire sales people, spend money on Marketing and hire qualified engineers. Without a strategy you cannot grow the business and our vision should be long term. Stop measuring success based on monthly revenue and look towards the next 5 years. Whether you are in the oil & gas, minerals, aerospace, chemicals or wireless business the Technology is always changing and we have to change with it.

Stop relying on info provided only by the SVP's and look for more info/guidance from GM's who are working with the clients everyday. SVP's only hold internal meetings and never external meetings. DKL is a good example.

    Plymouth Meeting, PA

Prosrelaxed atmosphere, down to earth coworkers

Consabsolutely no advancement, work can be done by a middle schooler (no challenge whatsoever), low pay, very unmotivated environment.

Advice to Senior Managementwe see you trying to weed out the people who don't work OT by mass hire and mass fire.

ProsWorked with some of the brightest people.

ConsNo career advancement, morale could be low due to threats of lay offs, end of the month revenue push

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat your employees better and they would jump through the roof for you, threats do not work.

    Be a slacker

    Project Engineer (Current Employee)

Pros20 days PTO when you start, laid back work environment, and some good people to work with.

ConsYou work hard and they expect you to work harder to pick up for the ones who don't. They take advantage of the good workers and punish them for the things that others do. If you work hard and get your job done early they just slam you with more work. Now they are taking away the OT for the extra work that you do because some can't get their normal projects done. Management takes advantage of the hard working employee. They see a work ethic and know that the person does their job because of it. They basically run that person in the ground with work because they know that they will do it. I believe the flood gates are opening again.

Advice to Senior ManagementRead all the reviews!!! You can't expect people to bust their butts for you to pad your pocket when you won't do anything above giving us a job. I've never seen more people do less that are in higher positions than here at Intertek. I guess you could say that people are smart and do nothing and get the nice office jobs. While the people who work hard get nothing and are now losing the one thing that kept most people there.

    Unhappy employees

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Boxborough, MA

ProsWhile Intertek strives for excellence in customer service.

ConsWhile striving for excellence in customer service, the company epitomizes the large soul-less company that has no commitment to its employees. In the end, that lack of commitment reverberates back from the employees to the company. There are a LOT of unhappy people there.

Advice to Senior ManagementClean the useless slate of your HR department

The company as a whole is okay but too much office politics and not enough progressive thinking

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Plano, TX

Pros20 days paid time off, nice benefits. ability to learn about different industries. It is also a global company so it is good experience to build networking opportunities

ConsYou can work here for years and never get promoted. The annual raises are low and performance reviews have less to do with actual merit but is more dependent on politics and the inner circle of upper management. HR department is NOT impartial and could care less about the employees.

    A difficult corporate culture

    Project Engineer (Former Employee)

ProsA lot of variety here, you can get involved in many types of projects depending on your abilities and interests and of course what you were hired for.

ConsYou almost have to be a lawyer to work there, you have to stay billable and profitable or you will feel intense pressure. You will be judged almost entirely on how much money you bring in, everything else is secondary. May get the feeling that this is a company that hasn't made a profit in more than a hundred years due to the culture of desperation at work there.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake the financial pressures off the technical people and put it on the sales people where it belongs. Engineers should not be obsessing over finances all the time.

    Flexible, but no growth opportunities

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

    Pros- flexible, decent benefits
    - allowed to take ownership of projects
    - peers are genial and friendly
    - smaller teams can work better together

ConsManagement too rigid. It hasn't bothered to integrate all the diff. companies it acquires into a cohesive environment - resulting in very little direction.

Advice to Senior ManagementEmployees need to feel valued, and even small lunches, events can go a long way in improving employee morale. Departments need to work closely together to create good services, and I don't see that happening any time soon, even though there are managers who want to make it happen too.
