    I worked at Ixia

    Pros

Compensation and benefits are competitive with other tech companies.

    Cons

The company doesn't seem to have a long-term strategy. Hopefully the new CEO will be able to change that. The culture is mainly talk and posters - basically it's work 24/7.

Bad decisions, weak leadership, missed potential

I worked at Ixia full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Bought growing companies (Anue and Breakingpoint) in Austin two years ago as part of an expansion plan. Acquired large Austin presence and strong sales, engineering and management teams through these acquisitions.

    Cons

Company pumped the stock up based on rosy projections last year just before heavy selling of shares by senior execs. Stock then crashed more than 50% leaving stock options and ESPP shares underwater. ~100 people were laid off last week. Talented employees who weren't laid off are leaving. Not a pretty picture.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Firing the CFO was a good start, but more housecleaning of the "old guard" is needed. Embrace/promote the talent gained through acquisitions that is still at the company. Even if they're not in Calabasas. The world doesnt' need to revolve around Calabasas.

Interesting stuff to work on, but management sucks and don't care about employees

I have been working at Ixia full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

You get to work on interesting projects. Since it is FPGAs, there is less pressure than working on ASICs since you can always fix your mistakes.

    Cons

Management is terrible and don't care about employees. They will claim to care and ask for feedback and do lots of surveys, but they will never do anything about it. It's all for show. Compensation used to be better, but due to massive growth of the company in recent years, stocks/bonuses/raises have all been cut. If you complain about it, they tell you that not everyone got that much at all, so just be glad you got something!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop making false promises about caring about employees when your actions don't support your words. Instead of all talk, why don't you actually do something about it and treat employees better?

I have been working at Ixia full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Good engineering team,
    flexible hours,
    sponsored lunch

    Cons

    So-so compensation,
    too many managers,
    company does not appreciate people,
and now board of directors managed to fire key technology leader - Vic Alston, bunch of cowardly traitors.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change board of directors, reduce managers, hire more engineers.

I have been working at Ixia full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Working for a successful & rapidly growing company like Ixia is thrilling, especially when many of its products are cutting edge and first-to-market. Partnerships with the best companies in technology and industry standards organizations set Ixia apart from its competition. Opportunities to learn the latest technologies and stay ahead in one's career make Ixia a compelling place to work.

    Cons

My negative experience with Ixia may have been a negative side effect of its rapid growth. In one case, I was treated harshly by a co-worker who worked many years for the Ixia. We worked together on the same account, yet, he treated me like his competition and tarnished my reputation with our customer by backbiting and using false accusations. Despite his relatively narrow technical expertise, and even worse communication skills, management looked the other way when I and his other peers voiced concerns. In another case, a project manager with very little people management experience (and an extreme lack of interpersonal skills) was promoted to be the director of the global professional services organization. In my opinion, his disagreeable personality sours the morale of the entire organization.

I worked at Ixia full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    cutting edge technologies
    decent benefits
    nice facilities

    Cons

    very destructive work environment
    permanent state of emergency
death march is the standard way of getting things done
artificially created internal competition destroys the spirit
    guaranteed burnout after few years

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Perhaps honesty is better long term strategy than trying to play people against each other. Competition should come from the outside, not inside.

I have been working at Ixia

    Pros

Bleeding edge technology, a lot of interesting challenges (if you are in the right team). A lot of smart people around. Good benefits package.

    Cons

The culture in the company definitely changed. A lot of smart people left or were let go. Management treats people like resource. Bug numbers is the only game in town. With overseas locations work-life balance is nonexistent.
