I have been working at Ixia full-time

    Pros

Ability to work on the latest network and app technologies of the internet. Good freedom of how to work ... Can start late if you have some chores to finish. If tough problems interest you ..you will surely get a few. Ownership of work .. Casual atmosphere at work .. With peers and managers. Good pay w.r.t Kolkata but that alone.

    Cons

Dont expect bonuses .... Getting lesser every year. Very clear downward difference from Bangalore salaries... Comparing with peers in similar companies in Bangalore can sometimes cause heartburn.Need to accept that and get on with it. Too much of emphasis on big bang demoes . tools . cool sounding names and next gen architectures not of much use to Ixia making money ... But much of that is quite interesting as well. Not much appreciation of deep technical stuff ... Need to create your own world of zen to not worry about it. Fair amount of sometimes very stupid Indian politics but can be safely ignored.

    Advice to Management

Not much to say ... Maybe spare some thought to the customer , the tiny nitty gritties and sometimes very complex ones . That detail got us to where we are but now with the 20000 feet view I think Ixia is forgetting how it reached till here. There is more to it than branding and big talk. Maybe a little more time and space for the deep technical stuff /staff instead of the glitzy screensavers.

    Advice to Management

    none

    Cons

Not going to campus for hiring for last couple of years.

    Advice to Management

Facility could be improved. Need more space for extra curricular activities. Please see how this can be arranged.

I worked at Ixia as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good life-work balance, flexible hours (part-time), good salary, great, knowledgeable people. Really enjoyed working there, had a lot of opportunities to learn, engineers always willing to explain used concepts and frameworks.

    Cons

Rigid, "corporatist", management(top level). Full time employees seem to be really stressed out, and a bit dissatisfied with current company outlook.

    Advice to Management

Management should consider getting closer to their employees, allow a more direct/ honest relationship with their engineers.

    Pros

great products, never boring, as I was in a Technical role it was very interesting. over a majority of my time the mangement were great, products are fantastic and have alot of technical depth to learn. Good frequent trips to the US, but this was when the company was smaller, not sure how many trips there would be now for the UK based employees.

    Cons

Long Hours, took a long time to get more staff in to ease the workload. work life balance is a challenge to get right, working remote has become easier of the last 2 years I was in the Job.

    Advice to Management

Look after your employees, take on more staff to help the overworked remaining Engineers.

I have been working at Ixia full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Salary and benefits slightly above average. Environment is friendly, most of my co-workers became friends. Hours are flexible when work is scarce. Central location in a nice part of Bucharest.

    Cons

When there is work to be done, which is most of the time, people are expected to do unpaid overtime and even work weekends. This stems mostly from unrealistic expectations and poor planning, as some projects failed targets from week one, but management can't (or rather, won't) adjust targets. For a software engineer, work is generally bug fixing, with the occasional new feature needing to be implemented as designed (poorly) by a committee. The overall system architecture is mostly undocumented, with knowledge concentrated in a few key people. This also makes debugging frustrating, as sometimes days of debugging reveal that the problem is someone else's responsability. Equipment is scarce and engineers are often pressed by unrealistic time frames before someone else needs the particular setup. Globally, there has been much change lately, with the acquisition of at least three companies in the past two and a half years. Each time higher ups makes speeches, talks about change, but at the lower levels that only means reshuffling of managers and slight panic as some people get kicked out. Finally, there are a few bullies who are known to most engineers. They have a good reputation with management and leverage it to push decisions which are not always correct, while diverting failed results on other teams.

    Advice to Management

Some of the middle management in Bucharest is nothing more than a machine that forwards emails and makes bad jokes. I don't know how they are reviewed, but it seems like they add nothing of value. Reviews for engineers should be more detailed. It seems that whatever the performance, feedback is mostly good, but adjustments in compensation differ considerably.

The work is challenging and the expectations are high, both from QA and from managers.

    Pros

Great potential for increased job satisfaction if management so chooses. High growth potential. Security and enterprise on the rise.

    Cons

Internal blocks create frustration. The tendency to say 'no' instead of let's try that.
