I have been working at J.B. Hunt full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

There is a multitude of opportunities, great people and if you apply yourself, you will learn and grow daily.

    Cons

Tough to have a work/life balance and be a top performer

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reduce the tedious activities associated with the sales position. There should be fewer steps to getting an opportunity in the door, priced and proposal and with documenting your customer interaction. The CRM should be customized to make the process self-explanatory.

    Pros

Lots of paths to follow. Relocation is a viable option of one seeks to move closer to family or to see other places. Great experiences, benefits, and great people.

    Cons

Rigorous and stressful industry, hours, micromanagement can occur and that can breed negativity in some groups

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Maintain positivity among groups, it helps a lot. Less micromanaging can yield a lot of good

I have been working at J.B. Hunt full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Home time is the best pro for what I do,Income is middle range,Insurance coverage is middle range but a little high in cost

    Cons

Company has gotten to big,They change the rules ,pay and the way the trucks run and there come back is if you dont like it you know where the door is

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Just listen to your drivers, take to heart and consider our concerns,I feel that the top people in the company forgot that its us driver doing the work,We are a trucking company its the men and women that driver that make your paychecks. We have a very high csa score and turn over rate because of the kind of drivers you hire, change the way you treat and pay your drivers and you can change the class of driver you hire

    Pros

Growing company with steady work. Good pay to qualified mechanics. Pretty good benefits except for 1. Good work hours.

    Cons

They hire to many unqualified people just to fill openings and too many lazy employees. Health care benefits suck.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make health care benefits much cheaper for employees. Need to provide better training to some of the employees.

    Pros

    at least the paycheck cashes

    Cons

Truck division continues to downsize management roles. Really bad about giving people 30 days to find a job every March for the past 3 years. Has gotten rid of management that cares and replaced with "Yes" people. Would rather play loud music and throw footballs around the office instead of working.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs to stop running off their talented employees. They're losing them daily and replacing with inexperience and it shows in profitability in truck and ics divisions.

I have been working at J.B. Hunt

    Pros

The pay is good even when it's slow. Easy to make $1000/week for a 5 day work week. You keep an activity sheet and you calculate your pay at the end of everyday. it averages $220/day if you're willing to put in 12 hours a day. Management is good. Definitely a friendly atmosphere. Really lenient on changing shifts or needing days off. Generally a good company to work for if you're a decent, hard worker.

    Cons

Benefits are very expensive. They assign you a truck but you share it and sometimes they aren't done with their shift when it's time for yours so you have to walk the terminal searching for a loaner for the day (doesn't sound bad but it's annoying when you're in a hurry), you WILL start offun graveyard. Everything JB Hunt does is based off seniority so all the good shifts go to the drivers who have been there for years. I've met people that have been there for 5 years and are still on the graveyard Shift. The seniority thing also gets annoying because if you request a day off a couple weeks in advance but if someone who has been there longer than you requests the same day they won't give it to you. LONG HOURS TO MAKE GOOD MONEY. 14 hours a day is not uncommon to make $ 200.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Petter pay packages so we don't have to burn ourselves out working 12-14 hours a day. Cheaper benefits would be nice too $160/week for a family is outrageous.

I have been working at J.B. Hunt full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Good company, with talented leadership. Leader within the transportation industry especially the Intermodal segment. Company will continue to be a top performer due to unique relationship with railroad.

    Cons

Not much mobility, modest to low pay. Easy to get comfortable and stay too long in one job. Time off is decent however you don't get 4 weeks until after 15 years. Training is limited and moving within the company can be difficult depending on your experience.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider increasing pay and time off or work from home alternatives that give employees more flexibility in todays work environment. The biggest complaint employees have is lack of transparency, low pay, and poor communication between groups. Helping employees find their career path and providing opportunities to train to meet those goals is equally important.
