Management doesn't listen and avoids conflict

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsNothing good to say about the company.

ConsThe company expects a lot of work for very little pay.

Advice to Senior ManagementImprove pay and work/life balance or continue to lose talented frontline operators.

Long hours, long commute, boring work

Operations Supervisor (Current Employee) Chicago, IL

Prosstarting salary, at first-but then you are told you must work 9-10 hrs per day without breaks or a lunch

Great job for someone right out of college or for those with limited brain capacity

Consboring, unorganized, I've worked at small businesses that have better technology and processes. Micro managed, under staffed. You are actually scolded for stepping away from your desk for more then 3 minutes during a 10 hour shift. Recruiters mislead applicants with hours, schedule etc. No vacation until after 1 year of service. Only holidays off are Christmas and Thanksgiving.

Advice to Senior Managementyour extremely high turnover rate is not due to the people you hire, but the atmosphere, work/life balance that would turn anyone with experience away

I would never ever tell anyone to work here. Ever.

Financial Analyst (Current Employee) Lowell, AR

ProsI honestly can't think of a single good thing about JB Hunt. See notes below.

ConsLack of effective management structure. Failure to properly communicate across teams; more of a silo'd team structure than cross management. Lack of professionalism all the time.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Lowell, AR

ProsThe people are nice. The pay is decent. Vacation time is fair. They value health and wellness. Everyone has been there a long time.

ConsSometimes it feels you are a small fish in a big pond. It also takes forever to get anything done.

JB Hunt no longer a good place for IT jobs

Network Engineer (Current Employee) Lowell, AR

ProsJBH is a strong company and will probably be around for years to come. Work life balance is ok to good and a couple of the IT managers are good people with good ethics and morals.

ConsSenior management focuses on what benefits them, not necessarily the company. This lack of leadership and ethical standards has fostered a layer of managers that would not last long in a normal workplace. Some of the sharpest technical people have left the company for the sole reason of poor management.

Advice to Senior ManagementPeople are a company's most valuable asset. I think the CIO has lost touch with the day to day workings of the IT department and doesn't see the downturn occuring.

Decent place to work if you're with the right account.

Operations Supervisor (Current Employee) Fort Worth, TX

ProsJ.B. Hunt is a decent place to work if you want to get a year of experience fresh out of college. The pay is on par with most entry level jobs for college grads. The benefits package is pretty decent also.

ConsThe management structure here is atrocious. People are promoted for doing a good job, which is not a bad thing. But some of these people have no idea of what it takes to be a leader, mentor, coach, etc. The management style is based on discipline and dismiss, rather than coach and correct. Upper management seems to make a lot of decisions based off emotions rather than logic. And beware of the Arkansas connection. It seems as if 85% of the management team has some connection to that state or school. If you're not one of them, you probably don't matter.

For anyone other than a first year college grad, the pay is ridiculous.

Advice to Senior ManagementRespect your management team and stop treating them like children. Promote leaders, not just folks that do-gooders that don't have a clue on how to manage.

    Bad experience with J.B. Hunt

Fleet Manager (Current Employee) San Bernardino, CA

ProsCo-workers are great. they are very helpful.

ConsManagement lacks any kind of respect to its employees. My way or highway attitude. Management shows preference to white people.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen and be respectful to employees.

    JB Hunt Review

Fleet Manager (Current Employee) South Gate, CA

ProsDefinitely a lot of opportunities for growth within the company especially in operations in transportation logistics and other departments within the company.

ConsTime-off policies differ with every department, since its a 24hour operation, time off is very strict. Work life balance is very poor. 50 hour work week mandatory

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company
