I have been working at J. C. Penney part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great connection with employees, no drama at all. Fun to work at and mostly good customers Rewarded for things (such as credit)

    Cons

They push credit way too much! Never ask you to stay pass your scheduled, but expect you to. Yet they say they don't have money in the budget for more hours. They don't schedule you based on your availability! & tell you that you wont be scheduled unless you open it up. Even when you do open it up, they don't schedule you as much! Then they call you on your off days to fill some else's shift!

    Advice to Management

Please actually listen to your employees and don't push them too hard. At the end of the day we're human and we have lives too. If you want me to stay past my schedule time, the polite thing to do is ask me. Don't tell me I can't leave when it's time for me to go.

I have been working at J. C. Penney full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

JCPenney has a long history of being a company founded on good morals. Almost everyone who works there is fighting for the company to succeed, and there are a lot of really good people. There is also a new CEO who has some good ideas. I am hopeful that he can bring about some good change and keep JCP moving in the right direction.

    Cons

Because the company is struggling, money is tight so there is a strong mentality of "do more with less". This is ok for a while, but it has gone on too long and people are wearing out. So many good people are walking out the door because of the long hours and middle management that doesn't listen.

    Advice to Management

Invest in the people who work for you, they will be your saving grace if you show them you value them.

    Pros

I was a great first job. Had an amazing group of co-workers and the manager for the Women's Department was the best.

    Cons

The customers in the area had a short-temper, but also company policies that forced workers to hawk down store credit cards and charity donations (round-ups) and online orders, rather than helping solve the customer issues.

    Pros

Culture, dress code, pay, location, career advancement opportunities, bonus structure, decent benefits, vacation time

    Cons

jcp is about 20 years behind when it comes to their systems and reporting. I thought previous companies were bad until I came to JCP. Promotions are based solely on who you know not what you know. Be prepared to network your life away to further your career. You'll also find more people in management in meetings all day than the people actually doing the work. No clear job descriptions.
