I have been working at J. C. Penney full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

JCPenney has a long history of being a company founded on good morals. Almost everyone who works there is fighting for the company to succeed, and there are a lot of really good people. There is also a new CEO who has some good ideas. I am hopeful that he can bring about some good change and keep JCP moving in the right direction.

    Cons

Because the company is struggling, money is tight so there is a strong mentality of "do more with less". This is ok for a while, but it has gone on too long and people are wearing out. So many good people are walking out the door because of the long hours and middle management that doesn't listen.

    Advice to Management

Invest in the people who work for you, they will be your saving grace if you show them you value them.

    Pros

I was a great first job. Had an amazing group of co-workers and the manager for the Women's Department was the best.

    Cons

The customers in the area had a short-temper, but also company policies that forced workers to hawk down store credit cards and charity donations (round-ups) and online orders, rather than helping solve the customer issues.

I have been working at J. C. Penney full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Culture, dress code, pay, location, career advancement opportunities, bonus structure, decent benefits, vacation time

    Cons

jcp is about 20 years behind when it comes to their systems and reporting. I thought previous companies were bad until I came to JCP. Promotions are based solely on who you know not what you know. Be prepared to network your life away to further your career. You'll also find more people in management in meetings all day than the people actually doing the work. No clear job descriptions.

I have been working at J. C. Penney full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The people (on occasion ), the discount, and the environment

    Cons

Management thinks and treats you like this job is your only option so no matter how they treat you, you will never leave. They make promises of how JCP culture is so awesome then once the store (grand opening ) and the stress hits they start the whipping.

    Advice to Management

Humble yourselves. We are all human just because you have more power doesn't make you better than an employee. We all work hard. It's we not me.

I have been working at J. C. Penney full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Discount is a plus. Lots of locations to use coupons. Manager salaries are good but you earn every penny for the hours that you have to put in.

    Cons

Hours, constant change, supervisors that work under me are underpaid fur the job they do. Outdated registers. Stores that are outdated.

    Advice to Management

Stop making constant changes it's exhausting and expensive.

    I worked at J. C. Penney part-time

    Pros

The customer's are very polite and it's a decent place to work starting out. The associates there are friendly and probably the reason why you'd wanna keep working there. The discount was pretty good, You get 25% off as an employee discount, which is great when you can combine it with the 25% friends and family discount.

    Cons

The managers are very ... adverse. When I was hired, there was this lady that had the best attitude. The best two weeks of my employment until she left to another state. After she had left, all went downhill. The managers made us leave much later than we were scheduled, even as minors. Obviously you can't say you aren't staying longer than you're scheduled because they'll see it as disrespect and won't schedule you as often. So you kind of have to deal with it.
