A nice job. But after a month there I want out...

    Pros

The hours are pretty good except there are some long days at times (8:15-6:45pm). Having a nice team behind you makes it worthwhile. Not too many other pros to be honest....

    Cons

It's a quite challenging job dealing with people's money and as we all know that can cause a mess. I feel like I'm on pens and needles each day since I am very new to banking (my background is retail). There is not much room for mistakes. My location does not enjoy working around school schedules so students beware. Also, because we are understaffed, I was thrown into a register and pretty much had to make mistakes to get better. It's hard to constantly ask for help while other tellers are busy with other customers and you have to continue to interrupt them. When it gets busy and there are 6 cars in the drive thru you just want to give up. If your location is completely staffed there will be someone helping you every step of the way until you get it right. At this point, I stress going to work everyday.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    We need more tellers!

    Pros

I was in the IT LOB for the entire time I worked for the company. There's good opportunity for career growth if you are politically savvy. The pay, benefits, and work-life balance are decent.

    Cons

There is still a lot of reorganization going on. If you're happy with the company, do what you can to stay. It's a challenge to get back in the door once you leave. Also, the parking can be a challenge depending on your location

    Pros

Salary and stability. Good work life balance and lots of collaboration. Merger activities can make a career for some folks.

    Cons

Slow mobility for seasoned veterans. Senior leadership tends to be changing more often than in the past. Every new senior manager wants to put their own label on the org.

Personal Banker in a small market= struggle

Former Employee - Licensed Personal Banker  in  Dayton, OH
Former Employee - Licensed Personal Banker in Dayton, OH

    Pros

Perks aren't too bad for discounts on cars, phone bills, etc. Better than average systems and tools to help do job well. The job is easy to do if you can talk to people and care to listen, but can be rather boring or slow for the active mind. Also, the redundancy of the job is mind-numbing.

    Cons

It's a by-office experience and local management makes the difference for better and/or worse. If there are established bankers in a small location, the majority of the market for large balance acquisition is likely sapped and the bonuses at the end of the year are minimal. Low starting salary and ability to grow, especially with the Private Client program push. They will be looking to close small branches in the near future and automate more services, which reduces employment options for many and lets management have a shorter leash on employee performance. Also you become the face of "evil" for the big banks who "take all your money" according to your ever vitriolic customer base... Exciting prospect, I know...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Easily becomes a cutthroat environment with poaching mentality and no management support. Management has their pets, and they only look out for their hires. Consistency is lacking across the board and the work environment becomes catty. The people who work for you make or break your total success; don't see your numbers as your only barometer like upper management still does. I didn't stay here because it was a dead-end job with minimal chance of promotion or cross-training.

    Pros

The company gives you a a lot of time off! Jeans day Fridays.

    Cons

It's difficult to be promoted unless you know someone who can pull you up. If you can network, you can go far.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let people work from home that are non-exempt. Look at the quality of the work a person does rather than who networks with who.
