I worked at J.P. Morgan as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Networking within the company and with co-workers is very encouraged. Managers support your goals and work, which is really nice since there is a lot of opportunities for advancement and promotion.

    Cons

It is easy to get lost in such a big company and feel unimportant, one way to avoid this problem is to be outspoken and always contribute to meetings and calls.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management should continue to be encouraging and supportive, while delegating projects that are not impossible but still challenging to employees. There should be a nice balance of teamwork and individual work.

I have been working at J.P. Morgan

    Pros

The job of Jr. Underwriter was the best job I ever had for a great company with great benefits. The training I received was absolutely the best I have ever had. My manager Tiffany Graves was a tremendous tutor with patience and understanding. Overtime was available and I took advantage of it.

    Cons

They did lie about pay increases to some of the employees who left a good processing position with the company to move over to underwriting. Many of who quit because of it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep doing what you are doing. You made a difference in my life.

I have been working at J.P. Morgan full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Benefits / competitive salary / highly skilled employees create challenging work / top financial industry world wide / opportunity for growth / desire to encourage internal mobility

    Cons

In my experience, in a large corporation of this size, everyone is replaceable and therefore employees are more concerned with protecting their own jobs; verses working at a team to create a universally better process and product for clients. Lacks a company culture that encourages creative and unified thought.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote those who will be best at the job they are being promoted to, not the job they're currently in. Some employees may be highest performers, but cannot thrive when managing people and there for we suffer by taking those talents off of the floor and into an office.

Always remember that training and stretch opportunities are imperative to an employee's success and we need to make time in our work day to continuously grow employees, not just master the current role.

Take time to talk to your team one on one. Every employee has something to say and every employee opinion matters.
