    Pros

The concept of the values is great and the board seem to display these.

    Cons

managersdo not live the values or behaviours

    Advice to Management

For the board to have 1 2 1 s with middle to lower management to understand how life really is. Not group discussions where colleaguesfear to speak.

    Pros

There are not many good reasons for working in sainsburys apart from the fact that its easy to get a job in there even people like david beckham would get a job at the snap of two fingers. The other reason why it is kinda reasonable is because if you work on the deli you can eat as much as you want, your not suppose to, but what the hell who cares if sainsburys losed 50p evertime you eat a slice of ham. Oh and maybe one more thing everyone that you work with in their hates the whole management tier.

    Cons

When you actually get given a discount card its 10%, oh wait that aint that good. Every manager is stuck up their own arse, except the normal department managers and sometimes even they act as though their god.

    Advice to Management

I would advise managment to not talk to their employees like they are dogs and to get their head out of their arse otherwise one day they may have a brown face when they come up against someone that isnt going to let themselves be spoken down to.

    Pros

when i joined j sainsburys almost 10 years a ago there was a lot more fairness understanding loyalty to wards staff and customers then there is now and this shows in the movement of staff

    Cons

a lot of shopfloor staff arrive late unfit to work due to drink not dressed in there uniform un keep a pearence such as no name badge shoes un polished un shaven many counter staff were rings which break hygiene laws many deli staff wander round the store with aprons on this is also against hygiene laws there also problems with deli staff eating behind the counter senior management take no notice of these problems the store at which i work as one law for one and another which leads to bad feeling among staff who have genuine problems with health

    Advice to Management

the problem with senior management is that favouritism is the name of the game they can never see what has been done there can always see what has not been done there is no praise for a job well done but plenty of fault they have no respct for any body elses feelings or poistion many store managers are bullies towards members of staff

    Pros

None, absolutely awful place to work. The only upside is how mind numbing it is. This is a plus if you are brain dead. However some employees are the salt of the earth.

    Cons

Useless employee's. In fighting between managers. Food hygiene standards were non existent. Management tried to use me as a bodyguard when they caught a drunk stealing alcohol.

    Advice to Management

Your doing everything bacward, treat your staff better and with more respect, hire some honest nice people rather than anyone that walks in off the street. Communicate better between each other.

    Pros

Holiday time is about the best thing to say about Sainsbury's....although the staff discount isn't bad at certain times of the year....

    Cons

Lack of respect from some of the departmental managers towards other members of staff. Constant procedure changes by the management on the basis that you're supposed to be able to read their minds!

    Advice to Management

You need to retrain some of your department managers in the art of of to treat other members of staff with respect in order to get the best out of them. The phrase "to many chiefs and not enough indians" springs to mind. The night shift are a law unto themselves causing a great deal of problems for the day shift....And i think the term "to many kingdom builders" also springs to mind along with bullying by departmental manager who seem to think that is how they are going to gain respect by making people cry and belittling them in front of others. So, Senior managers do your self a favour and take care of the staff that help you get your big bonuses at the end of the day.

don't treat staff as a number. be more understanding of peoples needs or problems. give staff members more back up when it comes to customer complaints.

I worked at J Sainsbury full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Staff discount of 10% and on occasion it goes up to a max of 20% for couple days. Uniform provided.

    Cons

The HR are useless, always side with the `favourites` Management are useless, i reported that there was a member of staff stealing and eating the products and they did not do a thing, even though they saw him do it many times, also the theif used to come in to work drunk. I lost my yearly bonus due to the HR department not telling me i would not receive as i handed notice in 24 hours too early even though i had worked the whole tax year and got told by HR i would defo receive it. I tried to appeal but they refused it for sake of 24 hours. There was nothing in a handbook to staff about this `small print`. The majority of staff are miserable and always gossiping and try to cause trouble (not my experience, just watching from afar) The managers beleive they are the best thing since sliced bread. This company i worked for nearly 7 years and gave excellent customer service and they couldnt even repay me with a bunch of flowers to say thankyou. Do not work for them, they are a joke.
