I worked at J Sainsbury part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Colleagues are great, made some great friends
Pay and staff discount/bonuses are really good
Working in different areas of store can keep things interesting (e.g Alcohol one day, pet food the next)

    Cons

Lack of appreciation, you could work so hard your hands drop off and no one will say well done
This will depend on your manager but mine was pretty useless, would hand in holiday forms and never get them back or get told you can be off then later told you can't or even that you can't then turn up for work and find out you are on holiday
Workload could be excessive at times, impossible at Christmas

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try and make sure each colleague has a similar work load. Plenty of times there has been colleagues working like mad because they have so much to do while others are bored stiff because they have nothing to do. It becomes frustrating for both.

I have been working at J Sainsbury full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

A generous holiday allowance, and if you need it good sick pay and work adjustments. There is also a strong emphasis on training and skills. In convenience teams are small and close knit.

    Cons

Shift schedules can change at a minutes notice, and hours are very anti-social. I can finish at half past midnights and be back in at four thirty some days. Its impossible to get a good work/home balance. Pressure to work for free is significant.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be tighter on absence, as many take advantage of how easy it is to take a long time off. Also improve the pay balance, as there are so many different pay systems within the company, resulting in few of us getting the same pay for the same tasks.

I have been working at J Sainsbury part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Nice employees, you have a chance to work in different departments. You get a free uniform and they supply good training before you start the job

    Cons

Long hours on your feet lugging heavy items can be a killer for the knees. Some managment can be un friendly or hard to find when you need them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    More consistant good managment needed

I have been working at J Sainsbury

    Pros

It's one of the biggest entry level employers , which offers to anyone who's looking for a temporary or permanent job immediately. The company offers lots of job opportunities, has a very good health safety policy, great co-workers. The employer enjoys respect and the recognition in the labour market from other employers and the HR department is really responsible and actually asks for references from your referees.

    Cons

Unfortunately plenty of the chances of advancing in the company, engagement, appraisal and personal development are depending on the manager's choise, so the company it would be good to promote and check if they are put in practise all the company's practises. The pay rate is average and there are no good bonuses, no bank holiday extra pay or any overtime extra pay. I haven't noticed any work life balance policies applied.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend more time engaging with the staff to improve the working environment and listen the employees requests if you cannot apply any changes. Pay attention to the training, except induction there is no other kind of in theory training and many of the important parts of training are learned only after mistakes in practise.

    Pros

They did a nice breakfast in the canteen. That is about it really.

    Cons

    Poor wage.
Management think they are something special.
Have to work like a dog constantly.
They watch everything you do, how long you take for break everything.
Literally the most boring, soul destroying atmosphere when you are just stacking shelves, you cant even talk to the people you are working with.
