    Empty Promises

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Milpitas, CA

ProsGreat Products! Has Potential with room for improvements

ConsConstant layoffs even if you are doing an outstanding job. Still outsourcing jobs. It is hard to believe your management, when they say one thing and do another.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou will have a hard time getting people to work at JDSU if you are not willing to stop the constant layoffs. Also, look closer at the people you are laying off. It seems that you are too top heavy and some management is lazy. Management likes to ignore internal problems or feedback since it may cause them more work.

    Great position, very poor management

Quality Engineer (Former Employee) Colorado Springs, CO

ProsGreat position and team work. I enjoyed the challenge of the position and the ownership of what I was working on.

ConsManagement bullied staff to where people found new jobs.

Advice to Senior ManagementRespect the individual as a person because they bring a lot of talent to the job.

    Horid Management

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThere is decent technology at JDSU.

Conscompany is spread out - no one culture. The markets they serve are so boring. Employees are miserable as this company is so old and stodgy. Management is the worst I have ever worked with.

Advice to Senior Managementstop worrying about just yourselves and politics and focus on employees

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

    More with less

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Germantown, MD

ProsGreat first level manager. Wonderful coworkers who are all hard working & strive for success.

ConsNo growth for employees, do more with less. Poor work life balance. Everyone works very hard but each day is a battle due to an outsourced model that is still inefficient.

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat your employees with respect. Understand what your employees do before letting them go & expecting the few that remain to clean up the mess. Put the customer first! You need them.

    PLM

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsFlexible work locations. Somewhat flexible hours in that you are not 9-5. Great opportunities to work globally.

ConsManagement fails at every level to communicate any sort of vision or plan. There are constant reorgs, and they have not meet a VP that they won't hire. They place unrealistic work loads on their staff. They will without thought or consideration of skills eliminate employees to meet their goals.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop hiring new directors, VPs to solve problems. Too many layers of management that are not in touch with what is needed.

This used to be a great place to work, then JDSU bought it.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Germantown, MD

ProsThere are still some people left that are really great.

ConsJDSU business practice is to purchase companies, get as much out of them as possible and outsource what is left or dump it completely.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou have some great people left in the Germantown Design group. Keep them.

Stay away from JDSU if you're under 60

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Milpitas, CA

ProsThey pay well compared to others in similar industries. That's about it.

ConsThe benefits are terrible, especially the stock purchase plan. Compared to other tech companies in our area, it's laughable. Retaliation by management if employees complain is alive and well. HR doesn't listen if you turn to them for help; their attitude it "suck it up or get out." JDSU is very old school in its management and promotion practices, and young employees don't stay long once they figure out they have no future here. Even the culture is old-school; no fun at all. The employees I see around me just drag through their days and no one seems happy to be here. For all its talk about collaboration, the company provides almost no social opportunities for employees to come together outside work, or even inside work. It's a thoroughly depressing place to be.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop trying to convince us that you care and actually SHOW us. You say you care about career development for your employees? All we see is management and high potential development, but nothing for the rest of us. Put your money where your mouth is, and develop the 80% of us who make up most of your company. Everybody wants to save money, but think about how much you lose every time great employees walk out the door because the company didn't do anything to make them want to stay.

Management doesn't treat employees with respect.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Milpitas, CA

ProsFlexibility AWS in IT. Ability to do what you want because everything is very decentralized. No policies; so hard to break rules.

ConsA lot of ancient people in IT. Recognition given when things break otherwise ignored. A lot of people who have lost interest in work.

Advice to Senior ManagementChanges are finally hapening in IT. A lot of dead weight in the organization. Create a more collaborative environment and train managers.
